This month's shanty/forebitter session will take place at the Press Room in Portsmouth NH on Saturday, 17 May from 3:30 to 7:30 PM.

It would be swell if those planning to attend would sign in.

See you on Saturday -- Tom

Tom and Linn-

Judy and I won't be able to make this one. Some Oregon cousins are coming in for a long overdue visit this weekend and we need to play "family."

Feel free to cannibalize any of "my" songs.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Albany? Now we need visitors from Schenectady too

I'll be there Barry. Might bring the concertina and have to be 'shushed'. The fiddle has to go get a tune-up and one of my other not-quite-right ones should go get fixed so I don't know if I'll have a fiddle. I hope we have a sizable Gloucester contingent.

Wish I could be there for at least part of the time but it is looking less and less likely.....

Had a message from Lynne Cullen who plans on coming. But aside from her and Hutch, Maine does appear to be under-represented at this time; I hope that will change.

Sun's coming out - looks to be a fine afternoon for song - Tom

I'm meeting Mary at the museum and the plan is to head to Portsmouth once we've let the dogs out for Tami.

We'll see you later!

We're about to head to Portsmouth.

It's been an interesting day -- I received a judgment from my appeal with Employment Security -- they found against me. I did not, according to them, have reason to quit the job that could be blamed on my employer. (Sigh; but at least it's over and I probably won't have to continue playing the time-consuming games with NHES.)

But...I moved part of the flamingo herd to their summer pastures and discovered on the trek down the driveway that we already have 12 ladyslippers on the upper side of the driveway. Not all of them are "ripe" (pink) yet, but yeehah! it's spring!

I left early. My throat kept feeling like sand were landing on sensitive places. Better now, but then I'm not trying to sing.

It started a bit slow, got going, slowed down again when the Evil Twins got food, got going again and then Barry, Justine and the Gloucester contingent showed and the session got to critical mass.

Gotta learn some songs or write something nauti.

Well, we are pleased to hear that there was one survivor.

No doubt the rest are still singing their hearts out.

Judy and I had a pleasant day playing Maine guide to our Oregon cousin and her old schoolmate. Not any singing but fun nosing around the peninsulas of the Midcoast. We stopped off for lobsters and hauled them back to Mother's farm, boiled them up, along with another pot of corn, and washed it all down with wine from the Pacific Northwest. Then fresh rhubarb pie and ice cream for dessert.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

A bit of a slow start until we hit critical mass and there was one point in the afternoon where the ambiant noise level was pretty high. Had a couple people (Fran from Boston, f'rinstance) show up who usually don't get to this session.

Let's see, Hutch (Emery Hutchins) was there for quite awhile, Sinsull and Jacqui, Pete Hale and his father, Alexander, Jeri, Lynne Cullen, Pete & Joanne, Rose & David, Bob Eaton, Alan Eaton, Barry & Justine, Fran, Bob Frost for awhile, Dave Halliwell, Bruce MacIntyre, Tom and I...okay, who have I forgotten?

I sang "Sandgate Girl's Lament", "Sloop John A", "Race of Long Ago", "Fathom the Bowl". Tried to do "Harbors of Home" but it was at a point where it was too loud to hear myself (or anyone else) and couldn't find a note.

The jazz crew stuck around to listen for quite awhile and tourists who stopped in for a late lunch seemed to enjoy the music.

Noisy very noisy. I shrieked my way through two songs and gave up. But what fun to hear Peter and Joann, Tom and Linn,Hutch, Bruce, David, and others. I really enjoyed the evening. Thank you Tom and Linn. It has been way too long.
Mary

I find it hard to believe that any ambient noise could overpower some of the regulars.

We're really sorry to have missed this session but we promise to do better in June and we may well be able to bring along a special guest from Mystic.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
