Hmmm. I don't know if I can find that one, but I'll look. The song is available on a 1967 album called I Know the Secret, now available on CD here (click). Sister Miriam Therese Winter has a Webpage here (click), and it has some lyrics. Miriam Therese is a member of the Medical Mission Sisters and she recorded her first album, Joy Is Like the Rain, in 1966. Another early song by Miriam Therese is Zaccheus.

I met Miriam Therese at a conference about a year ago, and I really liked her. She's better-known in recent years as a theologian. She's a brilliant woman with a quick wit, and she's a lot of fun to talk with. And she still sings and writes songs. I thought I bought some music from her, but I can't find it now.

Thanks for the reminder, John. I looked through lots of dusty, old, mimeographed hymnals from the "Folk Mass" period of the 1960's and 1970's. I found a number of songs from Sister Miriam Therese, but not that one.

I e-mailed Sister Miriam Therese and ordered CD's of her "oldies," and I'll post the lyrics when I get the recordings. I've been meaning to order those CD's for a long time. Send me an e-mail and I'll make sure you get the lyrics, one way or another. Our threads drop off the Forum Menu after 24 hours without new posts.

To bring back a thread, use the Filter box. Put a distinctive word from the thread title like secret (note spelling) in the Filter box, and set the "age" back an appropriate length of time.

I KNOW THE SECRET
(Sister Miriam Therese Winter)

I know the secret of the wind that turns my winter awry.
I know the secret of the storm that makes the child in me cry.
Wild, but not ever as bad as it seems.
There's warmth in the whirlwind that shatters my dreams.
It seldom passes me by.

I know the secret of the hearth that burns the whole winter long.
It feeds the fire in my heart and it enkindles my song.
Faith, so like timber, is gifted with light.
Promise of spring in a long winter night.
Its brightness leads me along.

I know the secret of the night coming down like a bride.
One day its dress will be white and every tear will be dried.
Sorrow and heartache will linger no more.
We'll know that newness that we've waited for,
When all our winters have died.

Thank you so much Joe. I can now sing along to myself bringing back many happy memories. Do thank Sister Mariam for me and pass on many happy returns for the joy she brought into many hearts with her songs.
