Subject: Lyr Add: OH GLORY, HOW HAPPY I AM (Rev Gary Davis) From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 23 May 99 - 04:29 PM OH GLORY, HOW HAPPY I AM Reverend Gary Davis
When I was out in the world of sin,
CHO:
Now when I had no home to claim,
One day when Jesus was passing by,
He took me in through his open door. I copied these down from Andy Cohen's CD entitled "Oh Glory, How Happy I Am". The "baptized" verse is unclear to me, so there may be some errors there. Enjoy the music. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: Lyr Add: O GLORY! HOW HAPPY I AM (Rev. Gary Davis) From: Easy Rider Date: 24 May 99 - 02:54 PM These are all the words, as I transcribed them from one of Pete Seeger's "Rainbow Quest" TV programs, of which I have a video copy. The program dates back to the mid-60s, and Davis' performance is mesmerizing. I have the TAB for the song, but it is too difficult for me to play right now. Maybe I'll try it in a year or so... Does anybody else out there play this song?
Tnanx,
O GLORY! HOW HAPPY I AM
Oh when I was out in the world of sin,
And then he taken my feet out the miry clay.
Chorus:
I lay in darkness, and I could not see.
One day while Jesus was passing by, Chorus (2x)
I could not understand.
And then he give me a horn, and he told me to blow. Chorus (2x) (Instrumental break)
I lay in darkness, and I could not see.
One day while Jesus was passing by, Chorus (2x)
Listen:
Won't you stand back, Satan. Get outta my way.
Well thank God I got over at last. Chorus (2x)
When I had no home to claim,
Now, fire baptized and Holy Ghost filled, Chorus (2x) ("Talk Miss Gibson" - Instrumental break) Chorus (4x) |
Subject: RE: Rev. Gary Davis From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 24 May 99 - 02:59 PM Thanks for the additions Easy Rider. Reverend Davis was a consummate street singer with a vast repertoire. He had a head full of "cut and plug" gospel verses and this song is just one example of his work. Probably never sang the song the same way twice. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Rev. Gary Davis - O' Glory From: Easy Rider Date: 24 May 99 - 03:22 PM Does anyone take the words we post here and add them to the big database? |
Subject: RE: Rev. Gary Davis From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 24 May 99 - 04:13 PM Easy Rider, the DT is up-dated twice a year, roughly in the Spring and the Fall. One source for updates is a perusal of the threads. I think Dick and Susan do some pickin' and choosin' to keep out the pop stuff for example. It is a tedious task for sure. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Rev. Gary Davis From: Easy Rider Date: 25 May 99 - 10:12 AM Great! That means my postings of lyrics here will not be in vain. Eventually they will make their way into the DT database for all to see. Thanx |
Subject: RE: Rev. Gary Davis From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 25 May 99 - 05:36 PM I'm sure Jocatgo doesn't think your posting was in vain. Hmmm, reminds me of Robert Johnson. Big RiB |
