Major Bob says you were so good looking you made everyone else feel ugly. love ivy b* ps i think that i said id be able to meet any mudcatters at the cambridge folk festerval. well it seems i have a bit of a funds problem so might not be able to make it. never mind, i might win the lottery before then perhaps. |

Subject: RE: uk folkies From: Date: 06 Jun 99 - 05:17 PM O.K If it's confession time (see Ian 2/6), then my name is Mike Cahill and I'm a Morris Dancer. There, they say that confession is good for the soul and I feel a lot better now I'm, "out". It started by accident I was in a pub and somehow got dragged into it (Press Ganged, more like). Been doing it 26 years now, it's ruined my life, never did get to be chief Exec. of ICI, or M.P. for Castleford. I might have been, you know!! But once they found out about my "habit" then they backed off and selected others over me. I'm not bitter, and now I'm too set in my ways to change. I take things a day at a time. I,ve not danced at all today yet. Just 2 hours and the day will be over. If you see a bunch of old men with Royal Blue velvet Knee Britches calling themselves the Wrigley Head North West Morris Men, Have pitty and buy us beer, were too old, week willed and addle brained to change. The beer will help us to forget the pain of the knackered knees, broken wind and the memory of how life used to be before we became slaves to this vile addiction. (You can see us at Middlewhich F.F. and Saddleworth Rushcart)8-) |
Subject: RE: uk folkies From: Liz C. Date: 06 Jun 99 - 03:07 PM Dai, I first heard of Dave Moss when he supported Jon Harvison a couple of years ago, which prompted me to go and see Banoffi - they were superb. The mailing list address given with their cd from 1997 is: banoffi bainley bank cottage fryup street Whitby N. yorks YO21 2AS The form they provide to add yourself to the list has a space for your e-mail address so I assume they've an e-mail list too. I heard a rumour that there's another cd out or due out, not sure how true that is. Liz |
Subject: RE: uk folkies From: The_one_and_only_Dai Date: 04 Jun 99 - 04:06 AM ...and a very talented bunch (?) they are too. I bought the CD at our own folk club, Dave Moss and another guy came down (not Banoffi). Any knowledge/prospect of a Dave Moss mad-bazuki-and-mandolin-type-release? |

Subject: RE: uk folkies From: Cat a Tonic (inactive) Date: 26 May 99 - 08:15 PM Hi Katlaughing et al, Since I'm very new on Mudcat, I sure hope I'm not coming across as an advertiser for hubby's gigs. Thought just that since I can't go to the UK, someone else might say hi in person to my significant other, and that would be like me being there (junior mudcatter). If you are interested in the itinerary, and I appreciate you suggesting I post it (Katlaughing), I will be very happy to send it thru email to whoever requests. That way, hopefully I won't step on anybody's paws. p.s. I love cats by the way and have 3!!! |

How long since you looked at his site???????? I have tried putting all the above on a few others, but most of them are like black holes - you send the info & never get a response. However the Tam Lin site should be up & running v. soon, having got started at last I am getting on with it fairly quickly; and I shall be putting as many links on as I can think of. Shame about Friday. You might enjoy the sessions though, they really are v. friendly, as you might expect with Barry running them! Sue |

Subject: RE: uk folkies From: Ian Date: 25 May 99 - 08:03 AM SueH Thanx. I know Barry G and the Greyhound session. For a good list of Herts/Essex sessions etc. you can try my Friend Kevin's site at http://www.macgrath.freeserve.co.uk It also has some of his songs (I like the Marmite one). May see you at Letchworth soon, though I'm restoring bells at Orton Waterville this Friday so not much chance then. Dai Yes, my wife was born a few miles from Skipton so we get there now and again. Never been to that session, though. This is getting to look like a series of mixed up conversations. Maybe we should start a new thread or 2. (ps I was a member of the King's Army about 1977. Subject: RE: uk folkies From: danl Date: 25 May 99 - 06:37 AM andy g ok, maybe it is too early in the morning for me (11:30, still officially morning so the excuse still stands) but ive got ECWS and obviously know what SK stands for but KAotW, KA and RA? now im lost with the abriviations. anyway, didnt the ECWS do something at whitny and blow up 60 of the public's cars and burn down a feild? no, my mistake, perhaps that was us. think thats the only time we dont mind being confused though...! love ivy b. |
Subject: RE: uk folkies From: danl Date: 25 May 99 - 06:28 AM one and only dai - damn me i hate coincidences. how long have you been in northamptons then? coz im not sure i recognise your name and im just about to start my 6th season in our illustrious green machine ... it could be just me being a bit slow so early in the mornig .but this could also be where you extract a rather unfashionable confession out of me about the fact that 'ivy' is not a name that figures on the regiments list at all. go on, guess! if you get it right ill buy you a pint this weekend at sudeley! (if your going that is...!) love ... er... ivy b. more beer, more shouting, resistance is futile. |

Subject: RE: uk folkies From: SueH Date: 25 May 99 - 04:15 AM Hi Ian You're just up the road! I knew there was a session at Ashwell but we haven't been along yet. The folk club at Letchworth is fairly new, my husband runs it & so far we have had Martin Wyndham-Read, Jez Lowe, & this Friday it is The MacCalmans. Basically it's on the 4th Friday of every month. There will be a break for July & Aug, when most clubs close. We started it up to try & get in more traditional artists, it's getting known that's the difficulty. There's also a very good session on the 4th Wednesday of every month (ie tomorrow) at The Greyhound pub, St Ippollyts (just outside Hitchin on the Codicote Road). This encompasses a range of instruments (fiddle, concertina, accordian. melodeon, bodhran, guitars, hammer dulcimer, bouzouki etc etc) & singing too. It's run by Barry Goodman, who is half of Life & Times & also a member of Time of Your Life. It's a very friendly session. Our phone number is 01462 438373 if you want to get in contact with us. SueH |
