Keep meaning to nip over to the Herschel, bit of a shlep for me.How often does it run, does it get many people,is it one where a few players are paid to get it going(quite a few are)?

The session is EVERY Monday night, starting at 9 pm, or 2100 if you prefer !! No-one is paid, to my knowledge, but Tom King, the landlord, generally provides free drinks to those musicians he deems to be so deserving, and there are always "nibbles", and some food in the "interval", usually (but not always !) hot chicken-----last night's was particularly delicious ! The session ends when it does ; it could be midnight, it could be 4 am--who knows ?? The most musicians I recall being there were 27, but around 10 - 16 is more usual. Standards are pretty high , so it's not really suitable for beginners or the faint-hearted ! Last night's participants included myself (guitar), Wild Flying Dove ( vocals & bhodran), Sara Daniels ( vocals, guitar, and concertina ), Harriet Earis ( harp), Paul Hancock ( various whistles ), Eric Faithfull ( Uillean pipes ), two guys from Oxford Folk Club, one on fiddle, one on flute, Sam ? from Reading, brilliant fiddler, another amazing fiddler whose name I don't know, yet another brilliant fiddler I had never seen before, and another guy I'd never seen before on "Continental Chromatic" melodeon !! ( B -system , I think ). At various times, one might also see there Luke Daniels (Sara's lad ! ), Jarlath Henderson, Colman Connolly, any or all of the group " Mise" , Paul Jutkewicz ( " Polish Paul", from Southamton Uni. ),-----the list is endless !! And the fun thing is,that you just never know who might be there ! ( Although I did know, obviously , that Harriet was coming ! ). So-----are you up for it ??   Cheers !!    Roger...
