Hello everyone!

This is an off shoot of the ..create our own festival... thread. I don't know how to do a blue thingy so if you don't know what I'm talking about please see the other thread. Or maybe someone can create it for me.

I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend. Allen C. suggested that I create a different thread to organize the get-togethers and I felt this might be a good idea, so I did. Something happened to my old codename which was annap, so I created this new code name.

MAX, I am now in the database twice. Help!!

If anyone sent a message to annap, please send it to this new codename as I can no longer access the annap personal message thing. Sorry.

The date for the get-togethers are July 17th and August 14th. I know this is the same date as the MUDSTOCK99, but some of can't make it. So..we'll be there in spirit.

Please try to make it. We need more people. So far we only have about 8 who are definitely going to make it.

My e-mail is apavao@bankofny.com. If you e-mail me or send a personal message I will send you the address and my phone number. There are small motels in the area, though I wouldn't recommend one in Sea Bright as we are a tourist town and they are expensive in the summer. I can house about 8-10 people, depending if some can double up in one bed or couch. We can pitch up to 4 tents in my yard. I've already told some people here in the area and I was surprised of the interest in folk/blues no-electric music. So they'll be coming. This is going to be so much fun.

Allen suggested I ask people to bring food, drink, etc. You are welcome to bring anything and I will have a lot of stuff available. I'm not rich by a long shot, but I do alright and I lucked into a beautiful (to me anyway) location on the shore/river. I hope you staying in tents don't mind waking to my river. Can we have music while we're making breakfast?

I'm sorry I'm very excited about this.

See you soon. Love, Annap (MAXXX!!)

I hate to be a killjoy but....I am 41, a father of three and have a daughter coming up on thirteen....maybe that background will help to explain why I am fraught with concern when people start offering their addresses and phone numbers over the Internet, opening their doors and inviting people to come to their house based on what messages they have posted to a forum. It's obvious that anyone can misrepresent themselves electronically in any manner they please. I know some of you know each other personally and that's cool, but please be careful and cautious. I am posting this only because I would not want anything untoward to happen to someone who is kind and gracious enough to offer her accomodations for a get-together to friends who share a similar interest. Unless you're into taking unnecessary risks and living life dangerously, I would caution you to be very, very selective in who you admit to your gathering. For example, if I responded to your invitation for your address and phone number, I would hope that you wouldn't give it to me, as you don't know me from Adam (or Eve, for that matter!). In this electronic age we live in, too much information about too many people is available to too many opportunists with less than virtuous intentions as it is. The Internet, unfortunately, like the rest of the world, is a scary and dangerous place in which to interact. Enough fatherly advice for one posting. I wish you all the best and hope your gathering is enjoyable and delightfully ummm....uneventful. Now we return you to your regularly scheduled program....

Hello everyone,

Susan and Dick, It's going to be wonderful. I hope everyone shows up.

Bill, great. Can't wait to meet you.

Neil, I completely understand your caution and fears. These thoughts have occurred to me. Glenn and I have no children and we rented this house for the express purpose of being able to enjoy live music. Glenn has his own band and we have jam sessions almost every weekend. Up til now it's all been rock and electric blues, which I enjoy, but when I was younger I really enjoyed folk and bluegrass. I love the old blues guitarists such as Leadbelly as well. There are always strangers come to play at our house. Some have been mediocre, but some have been wonderful. (a couple have been bad..shhh)

Have you ever wondered what it might have been like to live on Jim Croce's farm or been in the celler when Zeppelin was starting, or in Woodstock (the town, not the festival) during the folk era? (Actually, I was here. That's where I met my first husband). Now I'm not saying that anyone who comes to my house will ever be considered a great musician, but...you never know. Meanwhile, we're really enjoying music.

I am really looking forward to introducing this wonderful music into our lives. I hope it's here to stay and I hope this isn't a one or two time session. We want to hear this music live as often as we can. With children it might have been different, but Glenn and I have done our stint. I have two, one is 31 and the other is 22. Glenn has a 14 year old daughter that lives with her mom. All we have to do is enjoy life. And experience as much of it as we can.

And the icing, hopefully we'll make lifelong friends who will always be welcome to our home. I am really glad to have found Mudcat.

annap aka APAVAO

Where are you, Neil? Can you make it?

I totally understand Neil's caution, and the points he makes are well thought out...BUT...the Mudcat IS different. When it comes to a "bullshit" or "danger" detector, I've always felt I had both eyes and ears in the back of my head, as well as a sometimes uncanny ability to "read between the lines." Nothing is 100%, but I have trust in the Mudcat community to consistantly "do the right thing". It's not only because I've met 10 or 12 in person and have talked to 5 or 6 on the phone. I've exchanged some very lengthy e-mails with another half dozen or so, and to the best of my intuitive ability, I feel a high comfort level. I've given my phone number out a number of times, without hesitation - something I HESITATE to do in the "real world". In a nutshell, I think any "catter" that encounters trouble and alerts the rest of us, would find a pretty formidable support group willing to "go the extra mile" to help, and to perpetuate the feeling of safety in out group.
Once again, I know nothing is fool-proof, but I think "as a group", the "cat" is pretty close.

Rick,

Insofar as it is possible to feel a comfortable level of security anywhere on the 'net, you are absolutely right about the 'Cat. But from following a particular thread in this forum, we know that at least one person of this cyber-community has had trouble with a stalker"....I guess my natural bent is to err on the side of caution.

Annap aka APAVAO: thanks for the invite, but I can't make it.

I'm going to try to make it to one of them. Things are up in the air at the moment as My Ma-in-law is sick and my wife has been in Colorado looking after her. It's played hell with our budget and our schedules. As soon as she gets home we'll try to get back on track and we may be able to plan something.

Having met Rick through this site, (and on the way to meeting more Mudcatters, I hope), and always thrilled by this community, I nevertheless am with Neil on this. I was going to post something about this myself, but Neil is right to do this. While the Mudcatters are a wonderful group, I think it is important to realize that the site is essentially open every day to wanderers over whom we have no control, and for whom we have no time to develop antennae readings . I was reading annap's thread(s) with growing apprehension about the information you were giving out about your home and situation (also jealousy cause I can't make it, but that is another topic!). This is not really a password controlled site. For instance, I think it would be very easy, after reading a number of threads, to fake into this, ask for directions to come a few days early, and so on to your semi-isolated place (or that is how it reads) where there are just the two of you, not that young (you just told us that) who are prone to welcome strangers into your house (you told us that too).
I don't think this is just paranoia: the cold fact is that this site is really open to anyone, anyone who has access to a computer anywhere. We can forget this easily because there are "community signals" here -- but we are not really in your neighbourhood, next door. There are cunning and not so cunning, but not at all well meaning people out there with constant access to the Internet. I am not trying to dampen your open hearted enthusiasm, in fact it is thrilling, but please be careful, Anna.
Yours, PeterT.

Thank you, Peter.

Actually, we're not as semi-isolated as I may have mistakenly given you the impression. We just have fun loving, understanding, music loving neighbors. Our police are very alert because we are a tourist town. Glenn is younger than I and a security guard, but I'm no slouch either. I kayak, and rollerblade, and go to a gym regularly. My 22 year old son lives with us, upstairs in his own little world, but readily available.

I'm not as uncautious as you may think. There are be plenty of people around us and we all take care of each other.

BTW, one of our neighbors is a real fisherman (who loves shanties) and a clammer. He will love to be there and, of course, will bring plenty of fish, and clams.

It's alright, really. Thank you so much for your concern.

Love, Anna

Susan Of DT and Dick have been to my house and they know we are centrally located.

Well said Peter and Neil. This is one of those times, when after thinking about something I've posted, I've come to the conclusion I was dead wrong. Each of you has presented scenarios that no amount of "bullshit detection" could prevent. Also, the reminder that one of our members HAS been privately hassled by a 'catter who is still in all probability among us, gives me cause to think. A final thought is that as a 200 pound 6 footer, there are some situations I might be able to extricate myself from that might be far more dangerous to someone else. I'm not used to being cautious without cause, but as was noted, the "net" is open turf.

Hello everyone,

Oh Rick, I'm disappointed. I feel strongly that everyone who has expressed an interest is a safe risk! Why don't you bring your 200 pound 6 foot self and protect me ;-) and... enjoy and play some good music and singing??

I will make light and I'm not worried, now please don't make this thread into a negative thing. I am forewarned and we will be very careful.

What your saying is Mudcatters cannot get together because of some supposed danger. Guess we should cancel MUDSTOCK99 too? You never know. There could be a hatchet killer coming !! (tongue-in-cheek ;-)

We need some more people, people...

I actually thought twice before voicing any concerns for fear of planting the idea in someone's head, but then I thought, hey, I'm a (relatively) upstanding citizen and if my initial reaction was, "What vulnerabilities are open to exploitation here?" then the not-so-relatively upstanding citizen is probably already way ahead of me on this.

It's shite's state when an innocently offered invitation spawns immediate concerns among (some of) us about what could go wrong instead of engendering a festive spirit of comraderie which the occasion warrants. The same sort of second guessing goes on when one encounters a situation in which another person is in need of assistance: whether the situation is in fact what it seems to be or whether it is a ruse constructed to perpetuate some manner of harm. Is there someone waiting in the weeds to rob us when we stop to render aid to a stranded motorist? Is the hitchhiker only wanting to get on down the road or is he actually a serial killer leaving a trail of body parts in his wake? I admit I am a little more cautious these days than I normally would be were I not a father of three young children. Thoughts of their welfare if something were to happen to me cross my mind before I involve myself in an unknown or questionable situation.

I applaud the spirit in which the invitation was offered, and frankly, I am pleasantly surprised there still exists people willing to trust other people enough to even make such an offer. That 'unsuspecting' part of the child still within me was killed by opportunistic assassins a long time ago, and I am neither strong enough nor courageous enough to resurrect it. It is not with pride that I say if I were hosting such an event under these circumstances all the valuables would be locked safely away and everything else chained down, everyone would pass through a metal detector before entering, a few Dobermans and Rotweilers wandering unfettered would be conspicuous in their presence, as would an occasional glimpse of one of Winchester's or Browning's fine and formidable products. All to minimize the prospect of the unthinkable happening. I also wouldn't expect anybody to attend. Kind of kills the festive spirit of the thing.

The other alternative would be for me to invite only those people of whom I had personal and reliable knowledge.

Neil, still wishing all the best, still concerned.

I've always cast my 'feet' to the wind, with cautious, but complete trust in the basic goodness in humanity. At 18, I was one of the 'hippys' (actually I was a beatnic) that hitchhiked to San Fransisco.I was one of the first that went and stayed in the woods around Woodstock,NY. I lived in Greenwich Village by myself for two years. During all that time, I believe I heard of one person that was killed by bad drugs in NY. Horrors are always in the news, but personally, I've never known anyone, or even known anyone who knew someone who was a serial killer, or killed by a serial killer. I'm not saying crime does not exist, I'm not stupid. I've had my wallet stolen out of my purse, once. I've left my purse places far more times though. Strangely, the person who robbed me mailed me the wallet back, sans money, of course. If anyone is coming to my house hoping to score a big prize is going to be sorely disappointed. Our most valued possesions are the shells we've collected on our beaches during long walks.

That a great question for you Mudcatters. How many have actually encountered serious violent crimes personally? I'll start a new thread.

Looking back, I've experienced more in my life that so many people will never experience because of fear. At my age, I should stop now? I don't think so.

On with the Mudcat Gathering!!!

Again, no more negativity, please. Love, Annap

Dear annap. Boy, anyone who can't learn from reading mudcatters' postings ain't trying. Once a topic is thrown out into the forum it's almost impossible to predict what's going to come back, although it's almost a dead certainty that digression will happen sooner AND later. Meeting a slew of Mudcatters in Washington has been one of the high points of my year, and of course the only way to let 'em know when and where, is to let 'em know "when and where".
I wish my schedule would allow me to attend, 'cause I know it'll be fun, but maybe next time. Have a ball.

anna,

I guess I'm like you. I have often opened my home (& my heart) to those I didn't know yet. I have rarely been burned &, to date, never badly. I acknowledge that life carries risks, but I also consider what I might gain. Communication & relationship carry high value for me. I suppose I could sit alone in my house & be relatively safe, but I cherish the experiences & the friendships I've had because I was willing to reach out. If I get burned, I may reconsider my approach. For now, I'm going w/ my instincts.

best to you all,

I'm afraid our friend bbc and Duane are not going to be able to make the July 17th date. How disappointing. Hopefully they can make the August 14th date. I hope everyone else can make it. We only have a few people from Mudcat as it is.

I hope we can pick up some more people. Who else would like to be there??

Roger of Baltimore? Bert? Max? Rechal? Landsman? Justin? .... I can recruit some local folkies who contribute to the DT, but not necessarily to Mudcat, if you want me to.

As you may know I have been on a killer assignment for the best part of a month. It is done and I am trying to get caught up on my 'Cat obligations. I have read this thread from top to bottom and am saddened that I cannot attend what I believe will be a great time. I completely understand Neil's concern, and I applaud him for expressing it. However it seems to me that you have covered the appropriate bases. And has been said, Heaven help the eejit who would mess with one of our 'catters.

Hello. Good morning. I had a wonderful weekend. Hope you all did too. After we starting telling people about the gathering, we've discovered an amazing amount of interest in this type of music. Yesterday a friend of ours brought a wonderful guitar player/singer named Barbara to our house to jam. She was great and we had a wonderful non-electric afternoon. We did have drums though, but Glenn played softly and fit right in. Last night this same friend (Susan) took us to a place in Deal, NJ called The Old Deal Roadhouse. They were having an open mike and there were many acoustic players. When Glenn saw someone come up on stage with a washboard he was very doubtful that this was going to be any good. Boy, was he surprised. There we were, right in the middle of a fantastic jug band. Shades of Andy Griffith. I, of course, told everyone about Mudcat and invited them to the gathering. Not everyone will show up, but a few will. Barbara is going to be there. (I RECEIVED MY MUDCAT TEE) It looks like this is going to be good. We still need more Mudcatters though.

Susan of DT and annap, We're thinking about it -- at least I am, haven't discussed it with Bill yet. Unfortunately we can't make any commitment til much closer to the time. Lots of difficulties: How will my health be that week, ie can I take the drive, much less sleeping in a tent for two nights? How will our rather shaky finances hold out? What will the kid be doing that weekend? (He's planning on out of town guests sometime this summer).

Aside from all those things, it sounds wonderful and I would love to see you all. Annap, you haven't really told us how you see handling things like food and cooking. Or have you, in another thread that I missed? What about bathrooms? The more people you get, the more strain it puts on your septic system, if you have one. Eight mudcatters is quite a lot, actually, especially if you will be having in a lot of local friends as well. None of this is intended to be negative, just nosy. Well, not really nosy but I couldn't resist saying that.

Best of luck with it, and please don't feel my questions are intrusive, it's just that getting a clear picture of the logistics will help us decide what we can do. - Rita Ferrara

Hi Rita and everyone,

I don't think your questions are intrusive at all. I have a stove and a barbeque grill and I hope everyone will share in the cooking. I think we'll mostly be using the grill...and there's always takeout. We can have pizza, or chinese, or Italian, etc.

I have two bathrooms and modern plumbing with town sewerage so this is not a problem.

I'm planning on sirloin steaks. This is not as expensive as it sounds. These steaks are on sale all the time and are good size. I can get a 1/2 lb. steak for about $2. I was also planning on shrimp, corn on the cob, barbequed chicken, chicken wings.

I just bought a waffle iron, so breakfast will be fun. We'll have fruit, eggs, lots and lots of coffee, juice, etc.

To drink there will be various sodas, beer, wine, etc.

..and whatever anyone brings.

We have a spare room, a real big couch for two, upstairs in the attic (very big attic)in my sons room we'll have blow up double beds, outside we people can put up a couple of tents. (This sounds like the best idea to me, maybe I'll go sleep by my river.)

I think you get the picture. Yes, it's a lot of work, but I'll have help and I'll have fun.

Rita, I really hope you can make it. If anyone wakes up on Saturday July 17th and decides they would like to come over, then come.

Can't wait. annap

Good morning everyone,

Again, we had a wonderful weekend in NJ. It was a bit too windy for kayaking, but perfect for fishing and sunning on my dock. This totally acoustic thing is really catching on in our house. After Glenn's gig on Saturday we had a party at our house and several people who normally play electric and rock brought their acoustics and what a jam we had. It was so much fun. Even the people who only had electric enjoyed the whole thing just listening. I received many calls the next morning (Sunday) expressing the fun everyone had. There was one song done that I fell in love with. I'm not sure of the name or the author, but the chorus was "something, cattails, soft wind and roses". It was wonderful. It's so gentle.

Well, I'm still keeping this thread alive, hoping others will decide to make the July 17th get-together.

Love, Anna

Hello Everyone,

Thanks Peter. I'm sure Glenn has this record somewhere. We have a lot of various record albums(vinyl). Next weekend I'm going to go through them to see exactly what we have that relates to folk and/or blues. I know we have Donovan's Catch the Wind, lots of Dylan, Gordan Lightfoot, etc. It's going to be fun. Truckin's on that Donovan album.

It's very hot here in NY and NJ. I wish I were home next to my river. But then I couldn't talk to you guys. I just bought a Gateway 450 with a printer and scanner. Now I can listen to Rick too. It will be at my house tomorrow.

Anyone else coming July 17th? Persistant, aren't I ;-)

Anna ... I think what you are doing is great and I wish I could be there ... alas, I cannot. And to those who say the Mudcat is a "different" place than most net sites ... let me assure you that you are wrong. I, and at least one more person of whom I know, have been stalked via the Mudcat, when we had all our personal information listed. I was forced to change my nickname and remove all personal information about me. Idealistically, we, who came of age in the 60's, would like to think everyone who posts here is honest, above-board, moral, and ethical. Unfortunately, because individuals can be whomever they wish on the net, it is foolish to think we are protected by the unpleasantness these individuals can cause. Forgive me for jumping on the soapbox, but I think it is very important that we all keep this in mind ... moonchild.

We think we will be on the east coast in August, sometime. Expect to be in Maryland, DC, PA & maybe NY, so why not Joizey? We may have the teeny-weeny baby Taylor w/us. (In a perfect world, maybe something else bigger.. but at least it's better than a Tipple, I suspect.) A lot depends on my somewhat unpredictable family.. But, if at all possible would love to be there.

Now, I will eventually need to know exactly where there is..

Good morning All,

We have a cool day here in NY. It's only 74 with a gentle spring breeze. I think I'll take a walk down to Battery Park today and see the water.

I wanted to go see Liam's Bro last night, but an emergency at home prevented it. Next week. Sorry Dan, and MatthewB. Next week. Can't wait.

July 17th. Everyone's invited. My rivers are beautiful. I'm hoping to get out with my kayak this weekend. I'm going ocean fishing Saturday with 6 woman friends from 3pm til 10:30 pm. Fishing in the moonlight on the ocean. We'll probably catch Weakfish, or as some people call them, Ocean Trout. A light delicate taste. Lemon and butter. Mmmm.

Yeah, Heaven...

Good Morning Everyone,

Last evening Glenn and I were listening to Rick's CD while eating dinner. We decided we are going to need a fiddler at this gathering. Is anyone that's coming play a fiddle? Can someone who plays a fiddle come to the gathering? We have guitars, mandolins, a squeese box (Bill), my honey will join us with a snare, highhat and and chimes, maybe a flute, a couple of banjos (if anyone cares). Sorry Dick, just playin'. We need a fiddle!

DougR, why don't you start your own gathering? I'll bet there are people near your area that would love to meet other Mudcatters (Mudcateers).

Rick, we love your CD. Glenn especially loved (I'm not sure of the name) the song about the steamboat in the heartland. Me too. I have several favorites. (now there's an oxymoron)

July 17th. Everyone invited. Just let me know.

Hi Guys,

I finally have time alone. My honey is at work, and I've done all my food shopping and put clothes into the wash. Answered all my e-mail. Created some business cards and now... I have time to come to the Mudcat. Yeah!

Jerseys warm but overcast. All sorts of things have been going on in our town, but the very best news is I have found a fiddle player for our gathering. His name is Vance "something" the third. I have his card, but I don't want to search right now.

I walked into my favorite watering spot Friday night, it had just changed hands, and there on stage was a group playing Irish tunes, folk music, and there was a fiddle player. I very calmly waited til they finished.

I asked the fiddle player to come sit with us, and as Glenn knew most of the band (he knows all the musicians in the area), the fiddle player came and sat. We bought him a beer and proceded to tell him about Mudcat and the gathering. He was very excited and said it sounded wonderful. He's going to be at both gatherings.

July 17th. Everyones welcome.

That sounds great. I know Susan of DT loves sings, I don't sing well, but I love it. There will be a host of other musicians who will be singing and playing.

I've never been to a sing so I really don't know the protocol. Is there more to it than just singing? Someone plays a song and we sing, right? Or, is there more to it?

See you soon.

Love to you all.

PS: NJ is beautiful today. My windows in my bedroom were open this morning and I was awoken by the river gently lapping on the beach, and birds chirping all around. Good thing I didn't have a gun. See why I hate guns in my house. When I was fully awake I had a little more appreciation for the beauty surrounding me. At least the ducks weren't quarreling.

Good morning Everyone,

We in Jersey are having 105 degree weather and blackouts in our electric. I spent all day Sunday and Monday, when I wasn't on Mudcat or doing other puter stuff, at the beach. It's right across the street from me.

Saturday we had no electric all day, and yesterday we lost it from 4pm until 2am this morning. I had a taste of what our ancesters had to endure. Thank goodness for Ben Franklin!!

It was a learning experience though. We had to use candles all night. I was wondering if people used to ration their candles. I know they made them theirselves, but I wonder if, for instance, they only used two a day. When they were used up, did you have to go to bed? Oh wait. They had fireplaces, didn't they? Oh, no. Not in the summer. Interesting experience. I think I'd like to try living out in the wilderness in a log cabin without all the things we take for granted. For a little while anyway.

Only one weekend away..I'm excited and very nervous. I want everything to be perfect and I want everyone to have a good time. I hope everyone shows up and I hope it goes well.

July 17th, August 14th, Everyone's invited. Come early. I'm making breakfast for Allen and Dave and anyone who's there early.

Have a wonderful day. Love, annap

My good friend, Dave (who is a Mudcatter in spirit only because he lacks a computer) and I are getting pretty excited about Anna's gathering. It (the first of two) is only a very few days away. Anna and Glenn have put forth a lot of effort and planning, and have managed to entice a good number of local folks to attend what promises to be a fine event. I am a little surprised, though, at the small number of 'Catters who have committed to being there. A few more couldn't hurt. There is a broad variety of instruments which will be represented and much music to be shared by all. I hope that if you have thought you might possibly attend, you will now make the commitment to come.

I will make it for sure both times, so you all better come at least once so I can see that you are real and you can see that I am too. It's not often I leave my virtual (and depressing) virtual existence, so come on out and see that I really exist.

Max, I'm really glad you have decided to be here.

I have a question for RiB. Will you be able to make it Saturday? I know you thought you might come, but had not yet decided. It's not that far from Baltimore, is it?

It's getting very exciting now.

This Saurday, July 17th and August 14th, all weekend. Just let me know and I'll give you directions.

Love, annap

A couple of folks have asked me, so I'll state unequivocally:

Mudcat Tee-shirts will be available at Annap's. And if you want to buy one, there's no postage.

we're out of XXXL at thr moment, but all other sizes are available.

OK!! THIS IS IT!! TOMORROW!

I'm home today to prepare for tonight and tomorrow and Sunday. I've had several phone calls yesterday and today. We have another wonderful mandolin player coming and he asked if he could bring a fellow who plays a washtub. Glenn has heard him and says he's pretty good for bass. That's a lot for Glenn.

It's going to be sooo great. We have a sound recorder, but it's not real good quality. Blast.

Ok, just once more. Tomorrow, July 17th. Everyones invited and if you wake up tomorrow and get an itch to venture into Jersey. Come on! Everyone is welcome.

Love, annap

Good news, I just got a Digital Mini-Disc recorder and a very nice stereo microphone designed specifically to record things like sings. I tried it out last night recording myself in the house. IT SOUNDED GREAT (not me though, the recorder and mic did) I am very glad this came up because I wanted to bring it down and experiment and such. Sounds like it would be OK.

It's perfect because it can transfer to computers easy and I can encode it in a heartbeat if anything ever ends up on the mudcat. Its a nice setup too because you don't have to put it way up to the musician. Sounds great at 10 feet or more. This'll be fun. I should show up early afternoon Saturday. Yippie.

Its been lovely. Present are: Bill Sables (England), Allan C (Virginia), his friend David (W Va), Max (PA), Bert and Theresa (PA), Dick Greenhaus and me, and, or course, Annap and Glenn. It is a lovely spot. There is a gazebo at the end of the dock, where we spent about 12 hours yesterday. Anna is a gracious hostess. You all come next time.

Hello Everyone,

This is the first time I've been able to write and thank everyone for helping to make this weekend one of the most memorable in my life. Everything and every Mudcatter / Mudcateer was fantastic. The music, the talk, laughing, playing.

What wonderful houseguests Mudcatters are. Considerate, helpful, tolerant... ;-) Allan was up early every morning and when I finally rose up at 9:30Am, he already had dishes washed, and things arranged. Thank you Allan.

Bill is so filled with wonderful music and stories and his gentleness is powerful. He arrived about 2PM at my house and Allan and David arrived about 8PM. We were up til 4AM Saturday morning singing and talking. His leather work is beautiful and I have ordered my guitar strap. He is still at my house for another couple of days I hope, though he did mention he might leave tomorrow. Thank you Bill.

David couldn't do much but be funny and endearing because of an unexpected problem with one of his legs. He had to use a cane, but he put it to good use, as Allan said, diminishing the amount of annoying noisy mechanical objects in OUR river. And good music too. Thank you David.

Bert and Theresa were wonderful. Theresa help with cleanup and interesting conversation that eased the work part of the weekend. Bert made a delicious beef and mushroom pie for us. It was great..Mmmm. Thank you Bert and Theresa. ( I love Bert's shy smile )

Max, the Creator, ;-) was wonderful and talented. I loved his own unique style of blues. He helped to keep control of a large crowd of sometimes rowdy, but talented locals that came to join us. He started a round of musical talent, choosing who would sing or play next all the time recording the music with his new toy. Thank you Max.

Susan of DT and Dick added knowledge, history and fun to every aspect of the weekend, as well as giving me some great tips on how not to get bad calouses when learning to play a guitar. I didn't play. Not good enough yet. Maybe August 14th. I certainly had a large amount of inspiration this weekend. I sang though. Thank you Susan and Dick.

I could write for days about this weekend and what fun it was. I think my greatest pleasure was seeing everyone smiling. It made my heart feel good.

Did you know that "Where have you been, Billy Boy" was a Gordy song from England? I was singing it to Bill, and he started up the Gordy version. I hope it's in the DT. If not, maybe we can get it. I'll go look later.

I have lots of photos that I'll e-mail off to bbc to be put in our gallery as soon as I get them developed.

On to the next one...August 14th and 15th. Everyone's invited. Just let me know.

Love, annaP <----

I'll probably keep remembering stuff.

Thank you Annap, and thanks again for a wonderful weekend.

Tell you what, I'm glad I was at your place and not on Mudcat.

I think that they are all just peeved 'cos they couldn't get to "The gathering" and are venting their spleen on one another.

Kids! I dunno! Can't leave 'em alone for a minute.

Bert.

you are absolutely right there, Bert, we would all have been much better off at annap's, and we would have probably solved a few problems too.
It does sound fine.
