Hallo all .......

we just got earthquake 6.7 on richter scale only
few km away from my hometown ....

my wife is on her way home from our capital to check out our house
with our son , we are all okei but lot of people are in big shock .
Britches and roads are damages and some houses . not many hurt.

I am now in Reykjavik as I write this , on my shopkeepers watch
so I am doing this from my work .

they say that we will get another one very soon somewhere between 4-6
on Richter so we are on our toes .

All the best Skarpi Iceland

Weel, Ah dinna thank Ah wuid want tae live in the Orkney Isles. It's true that ye dinnae get muckle earthquakes there and there's a bra view an a'that, but the trouble wi' the damned Orkneys is the bluidy inhabitants! They're aw daft and stupid. Ah wouldnae live there if Ah wis paid thairty million quid a year, Ah wouldnae. Not tae sae Ah wuid nae visit, but I wouldnae live there.

Skarpi,
Our thoughts are with you. These quakes do seem to be like dominoes --one plate moves and precipitates another down the way to do the same. The New Madrid fault is south of here and I do hope it doesn't get stressed by these others.

Be well, Skarpi, and stay out of harm's way!

All the best to you folks,

Art Thieme

I think your friend will be save Poul , only 30 people are injured
noone has died , but there are damage on roads and bridges but
they have fixed the bridge and the roads so we can use them .

My house has a little damage , one wall has moved a little but I can
fix that .
Other than that it has been a guiet night still no big one , but they
say that it could come some where about 4 to 5 on richter .
So its not over yet .

so All the best Skarpi
thanks for the posts :>))

well , now they say this is slowin down but there are still
earthquakes that people can feel , there should be another one
coming soon say others ?? up on 6.0 or more ?? I hope not
many people are not feelin well about this . the houses
here in Iceland houses are build to take earthquakes up 8 to 9 on richter scale
and that explain why people dont die here , but we got injured from loose things from shelfs and stuff like that, and ofcourse we could die from losse furnitures , and that teach us to get them fast to the wall .

I just came back from the mountains in the N-West of Iceland
and had a great weekend playin and havin fun with my friends .

I have been lookin around my house and it seems that it is okei
still though one wall is broken , but I can fix that,

I also saw in the news about the quake in philipiens Islands,
I hope everyone is okei there too .

All the best Skarpi

I don't think anyone can predict an earthquake, at least not on a short timescale. Are the people talking about another quake trained professionals, such as geophysicists? Or are they mere gossips?

Here's a site with good ideas for dealing with quakes. No doubt there are others.

http://www.asiaing.com/earthquake-safety-checklist.html

About 'California falling into the sea,' -- if that was meant for a joke, it's not funny. There really are uneducated people who have been led to believe it will happen.

California's problem is that the southern part is headed slowly northwest, scraping against the edge of the land to the east. Unfortunately, the movement is not regular. The land jams, then it releases with dreadful suddenness, causing great trouble for small things, such as plants, animals and the works of man.

I can't believe the number of quakes, no wonder you have trouble sleeping.
Good Luck with the house repairs. Let me know if you need some help, I was talking to a travel agent just last week about a stopover in Iceland on the way to the UK, although it won't be happening this year.
