I failed to find any mention of such a song anywhere.

I found Kesson.com, which is said to have a good database of Cornish music (but possibly only music that is currently available), and the only song I could find with "Scilly" in the title was HOME TO SCILLY, sung by the Four Lanes Male Choir on their album "A Cornish Selection." I couldn't find any lyrics or sound samples.

Jim, Thank you for the reply to my query about the Brenda Wooton song. The title you give is correct, mine was fleetingly heard as the song was announced and the one line I remember is "Take me Home to Scilly once more". Brenda was accompanied by the Four Lanes Choir in the version that I heard.

Try an e-mail to the following:

studio (at) radioscilly (dot) com

It's all strung together for the e-mail addy.

They would be likely to have info on the song.

"Home to Scilly" was written by Richard Gendall for Brenda Wootton. That may make a search easier, or not.

I'm pretty sure the lyrics are there, but I cannot make out what they are. Increasing the size doesn't make anything clearer.

#, I don't think that address/link will work on anyone else's computer. Or, it gives search results, not the result you were looking at.

Here's the link # gave with a more direct result: link

Ironically, "Home to Scilly" is the only song whose lyrics aren't given on the reverse of the album. Life's funny like that sometimes, ain't it?

You can, however, purchase the song for 1 pound here, and also hear a preview. Based on the minute I heard I don't think me purchasing it would prove fruitful, sadly, as it would be difficult for me to understand the words, but perhaps someone else could.

Thanks to both Jeri and cnd.

Jeri, that was a link to a Google Images page. I won't do that again.

cnd, wouldn't ya know it, huh? But thank you.

I've just transcribed what I could from youtube, definitely some bits which are a bit wrong / muddled:

HOME TO SCILLY
(Brenda Wootton)

Take me home across the sea to Scilly, away
Leave the bustle on the quay and fly the bay
Slip away from view pass the rolling white
Then we'll watch the mainland sink from view and know that home is nigh

Covered grey stone houses that nestle on the strand,
All my love arouses when I'm far from land
Walk along the lane and brush upon the door,
then I know I'm home to Scilly once more

How I love the crimson bells that nestle in the hedge,
How I love the pretty dells that pleasant shelter pledge
'neath the cyprus trees, lie and dream the day
to the humming of the honey bee upon the black-fross spray

Roll me o'er to Tresco in your happy island gate
Cross the emerald water with your "prue so trig"
over fields of sand, starboard lights are near
In a mile we reach new grimsby, Soon we're landing at the pier

Sunny western island where the pretty flowers grow
Sheltered by the ledges from the stormy winds that blow
from the western rocks to the eastern isles
from st agnes to St Martin's and to Bryher "fifteen" miles
