And why I try to type anything before at least two cups of tea in the morn.

Tattie... "Don't I wish I'd bought a hard disk camcorder now?! or is it just as bad?"

I was wonderabout that too.

Oh, and Panasonic, tell me why you don't give us a hard copy of the handbook? It's all in a massive pdf file, 200 pages to print if you must, and the print's far too small for my aging eyes!

Finally made my first DVD from my own DV tape: it was NOT as simple as I thought at all! AS the footage was taken in fairly wild winds (and I hadn't then found the "wind noise reduction" button) I thought I would add music and wipe the original soundtrack. While I was copying the music I wanted from my I-tunes library to the video-editing suite (i.e. all going on INSIDE my computer, or so I thought!) I managed to pick up some unmistakeable hammering and sawing from the next room, where my other half was replacing the lounge floor. Eventually traced that to the open mike on the webcam attached to computer! (So tip: remove all mikes before doing such manoevres!)
Then the actual exporting and disc burning seemed to take for ever as it went through "transcoding" ( 2 hours nearly for a one-hour video)and another half-hour or so to burn the disc.
Then realised I had several copies of same files in various places on my hard disk, and was down to only 1/4 of memory free having started out with 3/4 free, so a lot of deleting, defragging, etc to do.
Don't I wish I'd bought a hard disk camcorder now?! or is it just as bad?

I tried again this AM and got one step further. I plugged the USB cable into a different USB slot and the Hardware Wizard came up. So, at least I got the PC and the camera to shake hands. I was smiling... until... it said, repeatedly, "There is no disk in the target drive." Anyway.... I guess I'll have to call Sony... sniff.

It's called Sony Picture Package. I wrestled with it again yesterday afternoon. It won, again.

Did the camera not come with a software programme to put on your PC for video uploading and editing?
I bought a mini-DV (tape) Panasonic camera 18 months ago: so only recently put the software (Motion DV studio LE) on PC, so still wrestling with it, but was advised that the picture and sound quality were better with the tape format than with DVD or HD.

I'd expect the Sony Camera to have a USB or possibly Firewire, connector to copy the movie to the PC.
After that you would use Movie Maker or something similar to assemble the shots, edit and add soundtracks, titles etc.
Then you'd export the rendered movie to DVD.

Cheers
Dave

I can't sort it. Anyone got an easy answer? Besides asking Sony?
