Subject: Lyrics: Ivy Will Cling From: EuGene Date: 04 Jun 08 - 12:47 AM Back in the late 50' - early 60's my little brother came up with a record that had a corny folksy(?)song "Ivy Will Cling" and he drove us all to distraction by continually singing it over and over. Anyhoo, we plan to do a thing about him (or to him) at a family reunion this summer somewhat similar to a cross between "This is your life" and a "Toast & Roast". While one of us is acting as the emcee and telling tales about his childhood, several of us want to sing "Ivy Will Cling" in the background. I tried a search but did not find the words. Can anyone help? Eu |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req: Ivy Will Cling From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Jun 08 - 01:20 AM Well, apparently it's a song recorded by Bernard Bresslaw of the UK. Sheet music is available for 8 pounds Sterling. No doubt, somebody from the UK will post the lyrics. Watch this space. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyrics req: Ivy Will Cling From: GUEST Date: 04 Jun 08 - 08:10 AM A friend e-mailed me that "Ivy Will Cling" was also recorded by a singer named Strang (1st name Albert, Andrew, or something like that) who sang it with a very strong Brooklynese-type accent. Strang was a mousy little guy who played wimpy bit parts on some TV sitcoms. Alco, I vaguely recall that it had some lyrics similar to: Ivy will cling, 'Cause it's the strongest of all. Ivy will cling, Through summer, winter, or fall. Eu |

Subject: ADD: Ivy Will Cling (Shuman Carson) From: GUEST,ajw Date: 05 Mar 09 - 04:16 AM Right - just came across this - sorry it's a bit late. Here in the uk, it was recorded by Bernerd Breslaw - a comedian known mainly for his work on the "Carry on" films Arnold Stang was one of the voices in Topcat. American comedian and pretty googleable nowadays. I have the single credited to "shuman carson". The b-side," where ya callin from, charlie" is credited "stang/shuman/carson". Mort Garson is credited as conducting the orchestra - NOT as writer os the song 7" Fontana 45 H 226 no AA263204 1F (and 2F) IVY WILL CLING (Shuman Carson) Ivy will cling when other leaves start to fall. Ivy will cling, 'cause it's the strongest of all, Ivy stays green through summer winter or spring, and I will be yours sure as Ivy will cling. Bluebirds will fly and raise the sky up above Bluebirds will fly,and sing a song of true love cloudy or grey they sing their messge on high and I will be yours sure as bluebirds will fly. daisy's will grow and make the valley so white, daisy's will grow and fill the ground with their light high on a hill (can't make this bit out sorry) and I will be yours sure as daisy's will grow. Waves reach the shore, no matter how long they roll Waves reach the shore, because the shore is their goal (again can't make out this line) and I will be youre sure as waves reach the shore. Subject: Lyr Add: IVY WILL CLING (Mort Garson) From: GUEST,jessica Date: 14 Aug 11 - 06:57 AM here are all te words of all the verses Ivy will cling when other leaves start to fall. Ivy will cling, 'cause it's the strongest of all. Ivy stays green in summer, winter or spring, And I will be yours, sure as ivy will cling. Bluebirds will fly and raise the sky up above. Bluebirds will fly and sing a song of true love. Cloudy or grey, they fill the heavens on high, And I will be yours, sure as bluebirds will fly. Daisies will grow and make the valley so white. Daisies will grow and fill the grass with their light, High on a hill or where the deep rivers flow, And I will be yours, sure as daisies will grow. Waves reach the shore, no matter how long they roll. Waves reach the shore, because the shore is their goal, Though waves are fun, while all the storm makes them roar, And I will be yours, sure as waves reach the shore.
