Subject: Lyr Add: WHEN I GET THE TIME From: Jim Dixon Date: 29 Dec 11 - 05:51 PM WHEN I GET THE TIME As sung by Siegel-Schwall on "The Complete Vanguard Recordings & More!" (2001) 1. I was born in an old hollow log. My daddy was a blacksnake; my mama was a frog. Well, I were fightin' with bobcats afore I was two. When I was five, I had a Johnny Conqueroo. CHORUS: So all o' you women, come stand in a line, An' I'll see 'bout you, baby, soon as I find the time. 2. All the men I know they just want to fight, 'Cause it's me keeps their little girls out late at night. You know, they go around givin' me dirty-eyed looks, But I'm hip to their jive an' I know just what cooks. CHORUS 3. The women around here they are mighty fine, And each-a one tells me she wants to be mine. Though I hug 'em an' I squeeze 'em an' I drive 'em all mad, Many's the mornin' I'm off down the road. CHORUS |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I was born in an old hollow log From: Jim Dixon Date: 24 Aug 08 - 11:15 PM WHEN I GET THE TIME or WHEN I GOT THE TIME (sources vary), sung by the Siegel-Schwall band, contains the following lines, which I transcribed from a sound sample: All o' you women, come stand in a line, An' I'll see 'bout you, baby, soon as I got the time. The women around here they are mighty fine, And each-a one tells me she wants to be mine. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I was born in an old hollow log From: ajw256 Date: 23 Aug 08 - 06:48 PM I think instead of "had me a man or two" is "had me John the Conkeroo" - typical blues reference, John the Conkeroo (also Johnny Conkeroo) is an adaptation of John The Conqueror and refers to a small statue used as a good luck charm. The lyrics you are referencing are from the song "When I Get The Time" I have it on an old Siegel-Schwall album on Wooden Nickel Records. You can get the three disk set, from Amazon, that has it on it now. |
Subject: I was born in an old hollow log From: Saunis Date: 23 Mar 97 - 11:15 PM I learned part of a song which goes: I was born in an old hollow log. My daddy was a black snake; my mama was a frog. I was a getting in fights before I was two, And when I was five, I had me a man or two. So come all ye men, won't you stand in a line, And I'll see about you, baby, whenever I find the time. Anybody know any more?
