Subject: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: GUEST,Sarah Hartt-Snowbell Date: 05 Jun 08 - 08:26 PM Thank you Jack. About 55 years ago we attended the same school. I admired you for your banjo-picking ability and loved the songs you sang ... particularly some made famous by the late Wade Hemsworth (Folk Songs of the Canadian North Woods). My favourite of all is Aid'l O Boy - a song that I play and sing to this day. I just wanted to let you know that, although you may not know it, I'm thankful that you touched my life for a short time and were a source of inspiration to me. I do hope you get to read this message. Perhaps someone who knows you will call your attention to it. THANK YOU! |

Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: Peace Date: 05 Jun 08 - 09:02 PM Sarah, I just got off the phone with Jack. I read him your post and he was thrilled (something I had to read into that modest guy he really is). I let him know that Mudcat Cafe is here and if he can work his way through the system, I don't doubt he'll post fairly soon--next few days. Jack was much more than a fine singer/interpreter/guitarist to many of us. He stood staunchly for the rights of workers and had an amazing knowledge of the labour movement and Canadian folk songs. He's is a story teller and fine man. It will be my pleasure to spend a day with him in Montreal this July. Bruce |

Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: GUEST,Bob Ryszkiewicz Date: 06 Jun 08 - 10:38 AM Hey Kids: Just saw the post about Jack and it's great to know he's still around. I remember spending many a night with him at the Yellow Door discussing all manner of things, but the thing that sticks out the most is Chinese Food. Jack would raise his eyes to the heavens with a look of love and just say, "GINGER" Ahhh...LOL. So many stories about Wade Hemsworth, The Mountain City Four, Kate & Anna McGarrigle. I will always remember his warmth and making this young American boy feel welcome. It would be wonderful to see him again...bob p.s. And Jack, If you get to see this, I have just one thing to say to you...CHINATOWN! http://www.myspace.com/bobryszkiewicz YouTube/FonkyLynx/The Soul Eater |
Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: Peace Date: 06 Jun 08 - 10:42 AM Bob, Gonna hook up with Jack in July. Hook up with you, too. Why not go see what's cookin' in Chinatown? Get a few of us together and put a dent in the smorg. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: Beer Date: 06 Jun 08 - 10:57 AM Sarah, This is what's so good about Mudcat. It can connect friends from the past. Beer (adrien) |
Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: GUEST,Bob Ryszkiewicz Date: 06 Jun 08 - 11:06 AM Peace/Beer: If we can round up a posse and descend on Chinatown, especially with Jack, he will already have the perfect place picked out and is probably thinking about the dishes we will have as we speak. You see, Chinatown to Jack & myself is kind of a religious thing...bob |
Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: Peace Date: 06 Jun 08 - 11:08 AM Works for me. Let's set it up. But you gotta promise not to wear shorts. I've seen your legs and people think you're riding an ostrich when you wear shorts. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: Stilly River Sage Date: 06 Jun 08 - 11:12 AM If this is NYC's Chinatown then I have three words: Wo Hop downstairs. No place better than that! SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: Peace Date: 06 Jun 08 - 11:16 AM Montreal, SRS. It ain't NY but it IS pretty good. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: Peace Date: 06 Jun 08 - 11:17 AM BTW, Bob. I meant no offense by that remark. The emus at Granby Zoo think the world of you in shorts. FYI. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: GUEST,Bob Ryszkiewicz Date: 06 Jun 08 - 11:52 AM Peace: I'll have you know that I've been insulted by PROFESSIONALS! The United States Marine Corps among others...Yes, New York=New York, then we could talk San Francisco. But the game is being played in Montreal...The Chefs move from place to place like the shifting sands of time. To have the knowledge WHERE they are currently performing their mastery is a "treasure", as the Chinese would say...In the old days, it was "Teen Hong" & "Lung Fung" with Master Lee & Tex... My thoughts for possible menu choices: 1/Crispy Chicken w/sea salt, 2/Canton Chow Mein 3/Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs 4/ Guy Choy 5/Garlic(serious)Shrimp, 6/Deep Fried Tofu 7/Stuffed Shrimp w/ water chestnuts 8/Crispy Beef with Noodles 9/Dumplings 10/Mixed Chinese Greens... And as far as what to wear, you will have to love me as I am...bob |

Subject: RE: BS: Thank you, Jack Nissenson From: GUEST,Sarah Date: 06 Jun 08 - 05:44 PM .... and to think ... my post has now taken me to Chinatown and now my mouth is watering! And yes to Beer (Adrien)- Mudcat is certainly a great place to hang out and reconnect. Which reminds me - when I was about sixteen (50 years ago) I loaned someone my Folk Songs of Canada and never got it back! So, Anne, if you're reading this, I'm still waiting for my wonderful songbook to return. |

Y'ain't BEEN insulted until a Regimental Sergeant Major has listed your family geneology and described how you--in this case me--have brought the family line to a new low on the family tree. |
