Hello all,

I'm a long-time lurker and first-time poster. I'm a Disneyland historian of sorts and have just written a blog post that may be of interest to some here. In the summer of 1965, as Disneyland celebrated its tenth year of operation, it booked a tremendous amount of live talent to perform at the Park. Every Monday night, June 21 through September 6, Disneyland had a Hootenanny, with the Park's own Yachtsmen Quartet acting as hosts. Below I've listed the performers from each of those Hootenannies. You can also visit the blog post for more details: http://disneylandcompendium.blogspot.com/2008/06/tencennial-summertime-entertainment.html.

I checked out the site, as well, and am completely blown away by the kind of musical talent that Disney brought in--and always something for every one! Wish I had a time machine, or at least some videos--

Were any of these concerts saved or recorded at all?
Either by Disneyland or any promoters involved with booking these acts? Would love to hear the Steve Gillette ones in particular.

THANK YOU

It is a very interesting "play list" and I even see the bands I saw at my "Grad Night."

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

A friend was in a 1970 protest at DL. Tear gas etc. He retreated to a men's restroom at the Disneyland hotel, and parked himself square at a urinal.

A police officer tapped him on the shoulder with a police baton ... he turned around - still urinating - and was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer.

Did these concerts only run in 1965?
Or were there folk hootenanny concerts in following years at Disneyland?

I don't remember how I got there but I remember playing at Disneyland about that time. I do remember that Dave Jackson was accompanying on bass. It prompted Rod McKuen to sneer at me saying I was just an "ethnic" because I sang and played tradition folk songs and was not a prolific songwriter like him. It was a strange time in the days of Van Ronk's "Folk Scare". I found myself playing banjo for an ad in the L.A. Times for the May Company surrounded by models.
I asked myself, how did I get here?
