Subject: Avaric: French 70s folk rock From: GUEST,Nigel Spencer Date: 12 Jun 08 - 06:27 PM Just heard an album from about 1979 by a French folk rock band called Avaric - it's lovely stuff, somewhere between Malicorne and the Incredible String Band. I don't know anything about them. Can anyone in Mudcatland enlighten me? |

Subject: RE: Avaric: French 70s folk rock From: GUEST,Nigel Spencer Date: 13 Jun 08 - 08:44 AM Thanks for that, Bruce. I'm fine and hope you are too. There are little snippets of info on some of the music blogs (and from your link at least I know now they're done other albums!) but nothing very substantial... I've heard that there was a fairly extensive folk rock scene in France in the 70s but apart from the obvious stuff (Malicorne, Stivell) and a couple of things like La Bamboche and Asgard, I know nothing. Which is a shame, because the relatively small amount of French folk rock I've heard includes some of the best music I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Cheers Nigel |

Subject: RE: Avaric: French 70s folk rock From: Peace Date: 13 Jun 08 - 10:07 AM Years back I was crazy about a group named "The Double Six of Paris". More jazz than anything else, but they did what at the time for me was very avant garde stuff with their voices and harmonies. That was near the mid 1960s. I will spend some time diggin' around the www for info come the weekend. Keep well, Nigel. Good 'talking' with you. |
