Thanks for the info--that one in the database (Leaving Home) is the very one. Mind you, it was a bit hard to find! Anyway, this proves to me the value of the DT, and also that of a Q&A system like this.

It's in the database. Leaving Home, by Charlie Poole. Try searching for Frankie or [Frankie and John*]

There's LOTS of different versions of Frankie and Johnny; this one sounds like the version by Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers, a string band from the 1920's or 30's; lots of modern old-time bands (if that's not a contradiction) have done it. Try checking the DT database for the Poole version; if it's not there, Mike Seeger published a song book of old-time songs done by The New Lost City Ramblers which is bound to include it.

Years ago at a Glasgow Folk Song Club meeting, Mike Seeger sang a version of Frankie & Johnny. Part of the chorus ended: ... "I'm gonna miss you, honey, when the winter winds begin to blow, And the ground is covered up with snow". I'd love to have the rest of this, and tune too come to that. Thanks. Murray.
