I rummaged around to find the 'portable hug' tee shirt and the Shellback sweatshirt that belonged to him and had the sweatshirt with me all day. Funny how things creep up on you sometimes. I kept hearing about this great bear of a lad "who gave the best hugs ever". I let it be known that I was known as the best hugger in these parts and no massive Brit was cobbing my title. When we met (me being just a wee bit massive meself) we shook hands and then promptly tried to give each other a rib crushing, head popping, tear wringing, snot flinging hug the likes of which civilized folks had not seen before whereupon we both fell out in laughter. Later we made poor little Maddie ( has she grown into a rare beauty or what?) tell us who was the best hugger. Smart one, that lass, she promptly declared it a tie and said Col gave the best UK hugs and I gave the best US hugs. He was a big man, but his heart was almost too big for his body. We only met a few times but the bond was instantaneous. I miss him to this day. It is hard to imagine never seeing that handsome smile again. Mick |

He knew I was traveling to England in summer of 2005 and asked me if I would sing at his wedding. I told him that not only would I be happy to sing, but I would write a new song especially for the two of them. When I finished the song and was recording the CD, I phoned Colin to let him know that I would be dedicating the song and the album to them both. He laughed that huge ColK laugh and said, "Christ mate, don't do that. I broke up with her months ago." I miss my friend. Mike |

She got some very funny looks turning up places with my Dad soon after he passed away. He was a truly wonderful Gentleman and I miss him still. |

Not being on here until now I didn't quite know which thread to pick up on, but this seems appropriate. Our family memories of Colin were a great help when we heard of his passing. A favourite one was Otley Folk Festival 2001. The first time we had been & he told us to arrive early & he would sort us a nice level spot for our van, which he did. On the Friday morning having offered to help & being told he was o.k we ventured up the Chevin & looked down on the campsite to see colin waving his arms franticaly & shouting "more loo's this way" (well that's what we imagined he was shouting as we couldn't quite hear)at a lorry load of portaloo's. My daughter nicknamed him "more loo's Colin" from then on. After that year he stayed with us when he was indulging in his other passion, Vintage vehicles, & a great time we always had. My daughter now 23 still thinks of him as more loo's colin when reminiscing about festival events of the past. May his memory live on through this site as I am sure there are lots of stories funny, serious, happy & sad people still could tell about this wounderful gentleman. |
