Subject: Judy Cook +Sara Grey at Edinburgh FC From: Johnny J Date: 20 Jun 08 - 08:18 AM Hi all, Here's another great gig which I'm sure will appeal to many of you out there.... Judy Cook and Sarah Gray "Living in Maryland, Judy has been on the road since the early 1990s, making her own the songs and ballads of traditional Americana and the British Isles. She has family roots in Virginia, lucky enough to be born into a family who loved music. This led to her personal discovery of the rich and varied treasure of folk music and was the inspiration for recording, so far, two projects, the first, "If You Sing Songs…", being an album of unaccompanied traditional songs and ballads. This was followed by "Far From the Lowlands," both successes and both allowing her to express her folk spirit and talent. She is respected on both sides of the Atlantic as both a singer and interpreter of traditional songs. Her vast & varied repertoire has resulted in an array of entertaining and informative themed programs enthusiastically received by universities, historical societies, festivals, and folks wherever she goes. " http://judycook.net/ In this gig, Judy will perform with Sarah Gray See also http://www.maclurg.com/saragrey/ "Now, after many years of singing and playing her banjo in public, Sara's repertoire is as fresh and relevant as ever. She has been concentrating for the last several years on tracing the migration for songs from the British Isles to North America. Sara lives for her music and works at her trade with the result that her music is not only technically excellent but also filled with her warmth and spirit. " WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT SARA "… Sara has gained a reputation not only for her excellent singing and playing … but also for the sheer warmth and enthusiasm that she radiates to her audience …" - Brighton's "Friday Folk" "… much loved and admired by almost anyone that has seen her sing …" - Bob Walton, Southern Rag "… everything she does is characterised by freshness and enthusiasm … You couldn't hear half a dozen bars and think it was somebody else … She is one of the select band of performers that still breathe life and vitality into traditional ballads …" - Vic Smith, Folk Roots Venue: Pleasance Cabaret Bar - 8:00pm Admission: £7.00 (£6.00 concession) Members £5 Hope you can make it along if you are in town. |

Subject: RE: Judy Cook +Sara Grey at Edinburgh FC From: CupOfTea Date: 21 Jun 08 - 01:18 PM I second Bat Goddess's enthusiastic endorsement. More folks that side of the pond may be aware of Sara Grey's talents, but on this side, we love us some Judy Cook!!! The depth of her knowledge of songs is just astonishing, and she has that lovely skill of being able to put across a happy song with an absolute smile as she sings, full of joy. I only wish that in this part of the world, there were more appreciation of both of these perfomrers and the style of music they do. Too many don't have the background to know how an evening of mostly unaccompanied acapella can be absolutely spellbinding. Judy pulls out songs from obscure places that stick in your mind and surface later as favorites. If you can, go, if you can't mourn. Joanne in Cleveland |
