Subject: RE: Tune a 6 string to sound like a 12 From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 23 Jun 08 - 05:55 AM I've heard it's called 'Nashville Tuning' - in which the tuning is the sanme as the top octave top six strings... But then I play the Piano Acordion, not the guitar... :-) |
Subject: RE: Tune a 6 string to sound like a 12 From: GUEST,lloyd 70 Date: 23 Jun 08 - 06:09 AM The Nashville tuning may work but that was not it. I'm not sure I like the idea of tuning a octave up, it may be hard on the neck. Thanks for the info. |
Subject: RE: Tune a 6 string to sound like a 12 From: Melissa Date: 23 Jun 08 - 06:59 AM When I did it, I bought a set of 12 and put the alternate strings on my guitar--figured if I didn't like it, I'd have a replacement set of normals that way. |
Subject: RE: Tune a 6 string to sound like a 12 From: Richard Bridge Date: 23 Jun 08 - 08:06 AM I reckon you'd get as close as possible by using an octave bottom E (ie the thin string from the E course of a 12 string, maybe about a 27 thou), a standard A, and an octave G (probably a 7 or 8 thou) |

Subject: RE: Tune a 6 string to sound like a 12 From: PHJim Date: 27 Mar 13 - 12:23 AM Ian Tamblyn plays solo Nashville tuned guitar in nearly every show. Paul Simon often plays a black Yamaha set up as a Nashville tuned guitar. If you read the liner notes carefully, you'll see that it's used a lot on roots type albums. I like it best in conjunction with a regularly tuned guitar, but I have used it to back up the fiddle playing jigs. |
