Subject: Woven Wheat Whispers From: GUEST,Sedayne (Astray) Date: 27 Jun 08 - 02:10 PM We're presently off-line at the new address whilst the broadband gets connected, so I hear somewhat belatedly about the closure of WWW then find the thread has been closed, for whatever reason. Anyway, I just wanted to say, right here on Mudcat, that WWW was significant, and that I for one benefited greatly from the service with my various releases as Ploughmyth International (Sedayne, Eleanor's Visceral Tomb, Venereum Arvum and Shibboleth). It reminds me of the closure of Anomalous Records distribution in the USA some years back - we did a lot of sales there too, but nothing came along to plug the gap because it was the vision of one dedicated individual who provided an essential catalyst for music which otherwise might never have seen the light of day. That's all for now, but this thread is for Woven Wheat Whispers. To the moderators, please delete the offending posts rather than close important threads. |
Subject: RE: Woven Wheat Whispers From: JHW Date: 27 Jun 08 - 03:10 PM I'm really sorry to hear that Woven Wheat Whispers has decided to close. Sales have been disappointing but its hacker attacks that have finally put paid to keeping it going. You couldn't have got a nicer to work with guy than Mark who runs it. Are we folkies too tight with our wallets or are there just not enough of us? John W (PS I tuned in to Mudcat thinking to lament Whispers myself but as have been slapped in the past for stating a duplicate thread I searched Mudcat first and it found not Woven Wheat Whispers, fortunately I spotted it high on the list.) |
Subject: RE: Woven Wheat Whispers From: glueman Date: 27 Jun 08 - 04:18 PM Very sad news. Current technological developments seem to be killing small scale download companies. What the future holds and how it will effect specialist music remains to be seen but it's clearly not a viable business model. It would be nice to think a booming live circuit will develop but transport costs and limited venues are squeezing music on two fronts. I don't know what the answer is but one will come as sure as eggs. |
Subject: RE: Woven Wheat Whispers From: GUEST Date: 27 Jun 08 - 04:27 PM This is indeed sad news! Mark is a first-rate human being who has done so much to help support psych-folk and traditional musicians. I have been putting off getting the John Barleycorn compilation, must get it now... I hope people will still continue to visit and support the other online ventures, Harvest Home and the Unbroken Circle, both of which are great hubs of traditional music activity. |
Subject: RE: Woven Wheat Whispers From: alanabit Date: 27 Jun 08 - 04:35 PM I am sorry to see the end of Woven Wheat Whispers. I enjoyed the discussion forum there too, although I did prefer the older version of it. It's obvious that Mark did his best for the musicians. He was certainly open, accountable and fair. I wish him well for the future. |
Subject: RE: Woven Wheat Whispers From: Def Shepard Date: 28 Jun 08 - 04:16 PM I do believe that it was Mark's wish that the closure of Woven Wheat Whispers no longer be discussed on Mudcat. the previous thread ended up getting rather nasty so Mark signed off with the following : "However given the nature of debate in this thread, if we can make a tiny request on our exit... close the thread down and move on." I agree. |
Subject: RE: Woven Wheat Whispers From: John MacKenzie Date: 28 Jun 08 - 04:40 PM Charlotte, I think you'll find that he made that request because of the tone of the previous thread. I'm sure he would not object to this one, as so far it has been constructive. G |
Subject: RE: Woven Wheat Whispers From: Muswell Hillbilly Date: 28 Jun 08 - 05:05 PM I would tend to agree with the poster Def Shepard, the previous thread regarding the demise of Woven Whispers degenerated into a shouting matching and thus was rendered rather useless, and I think Mark's wishes regarding moving on should be respected. Oh, perhaps getting in touch with Mark, himself would be a good idea, instead of trying to second guess him. |
