The songs which are unique to this CD are not yet posted to the usual lyric sites. They probably will be eventually. Is this a good effort by Emmylou, Kees? I bought "Roadrunnig" and listened to it once. Mr Mumbles did not help much.

Groeten, Kees.

I think if this gets refreshed someone might put the words up. Or an Emmylou lyric site will surely have them soon?

From: GUEST,Greycap

Kees,
Here you are...a present to my all Netherlands friends from the UK.

HOW SHE COULD SING THE WILDWOOD FLOWER
(Kate & Anna McGarrigle and Emmylou Harris)

How she would sing the Wildwood Flower
The orphan girl that he would love so long
In the end he knew she'd been his finest hour
And all he has left of her is the song

He first saw her standing by her cabin door
Her song was ringing out in a voice so proud and sure
To the lonesome valley, he'd bring her there to be his bride
Where they would work together side by side

She was his sunshine, she was his moon and morning star,
His words would ring true, on the chords of her guitar,
He was driven and lost to her for days and days
'Til the lonesome valley finally drove her heart away

Chorus...How she would sing...

We all cling to, as the years keep rolling on,
One single promise, of a love that's past and gone.
And the lonesome valley, we all walk it by ourselves,
Where the Wildwood Flower is the story we will tell.

Chorus....

It's about A.P.Carter and Sarah Carter of the Carter family of West Virginia. Their marriage didn't last but the songs,reputation and influence on country music have. Bless 'em.
Enjoy

I hear the lyrics just a little bit different from the transcription above. Here's what I came up with:

How She Could Sing the Wildwood Flower
(Kate & Anna McGarrigle and Emmylou Harris)

CHORUS
How she could sing the Wildwood Flower,
The orphan girl he would love so long;
In the end he knew she'd been his finest hour,
And all he has left of her is a song.

He first saw her standing by a cabin door,
Her song was ringing in a song so strong and sure;
To the lonesome valley, he'd bring her there to be his bride,
Where they would live and work together side by side.

She was his sunshine, she was his moon and morning star,
His words would ring true, on the chords of her guitar;
He was driven and lost to her for days and days,
'Til the lonesome valley finally drove her far away.

Chorus...How she could sing...

We all cling to, as the years keep rolling on,
One single promise, of a love that's past and gone;
And that lonesome valley, we all walk it by ourselves,
Where the Wildwood Flower is the story we will tell.

Chorus...How she could sing...

FINAL CHORUS
How she could sing the Wildwood Flower,
Now all we have left of her is a song

Any further corrections?

dead sure on the chorus chords as can see them on YouTube. Verse chords almost complete. She appears to hold the D for the first two lines, then in line three ?. [any ideas?] Final verse line is D A D.

Also note correction to first verse, line two,

"Her VOICE was ringing in a song so strong and true,"

is how she sings it on YouTube.
-------------------------

CHORUS
D                      G
How she could sing the Wildwood Flower,

She alternates the base note with an up-down strum between each.
