Hi folks, I haven't been here in a while. There is a huge cigar box guitar cult, er, community. Currently there's an article in this month's Premier Guitar magazine on CBGs.

We have a multinational clubhouse with almost 10,000 photos and hundreds of videos plus events, forums, groups, live chat and individual member pages at CigarBoxNation.com. Here's my humble page. Here in the states there are a number of festivals and the first CBG Fest in the UK is coming up in September in Birmingham I think (check events at CB Nation.

There is a lot of great music being made on these homemade instruments. Check out Ben Prestage and see if you agree he is an amazing musician regardless of playing a stick through a box. Click my YouTube page to see over 50 more videos of mostly cigar box guitar artists that I've filmed at a lot of festivals and concerts.

I'm always available to answer any questions and help any way I can.

BE WARNED! These things are addicting...

Ted

I have 2. Be careful, it's addicting.

My friend Shane Speal must be the most enthusiastic cigar box addict that I've ever met. He runs a great site with almost as much content and members as mudcat, all about cigar box guitars. Check it out: http://www.cigarboxnation.com/

There have been several threads about cigar box guitars. Put "cigar box" (without quotes) in the filter box and set the Age to "all." It will bring up a list of them.

Go to Alabama for the big fest. I expect you would get more advice than you could ever absorb in a couple of days.

I, too, am in Florida -- West coast near Tarpon Springs. Sure wish someone would give a workshop on how to make a cigar box guitar. Thanks for the info.

I've made a couple of 'em outta spare tuners, a piece of 1 X 4 from home depot and a cigar box. You can use a lotta "found" items to dress them out with. I had an old plastic blank used in circuit panels to close up breaker openings for a bridge and that worked pretty well. Some want to make just a slider type, 3 or 4 stringer tuned to open chord of yore own device and some go the full boat with fretted necks and all that. Couple guys at the Tweed's Blues forum make their own pickups outta magnets and wind them on sewing machine bobbin winders. It's getting to be an underground scene now. My friend John Lowe uses twin pool cues sometimes for his necks and has a bass string on one and three or four treble strings on the other wired to accept a bass amp as well as a standard amp for the high notes. The sound is tremendous as Bobert will attest to as he's got a LoweBow.

I gave mine to a buddy who had a Blues club down here in Florida and Bo Diddly played the thing and signed it fore he passed away.

Have fun, they're as easy or as hard to make as you want them to be. Just keep in mind that basically it's only a stick with wires strung on it and go from there. ;~)

I bet someone out there in "Mudcat World" has made a cigar box guitar or knows someone who has. They probably come in good, better, best. I would love to make one -- the best! Would love to hear from anyone who could help me out in this endeavor. Many thanks.
