Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cheesecake Song by Ben Sands From: Jim Dixon Date: 14 Jul 08 - 10:59 PM Transcribed from the sound sample at Ben Sands' web site: THE CHEESECAKE SONG (excerpt) Ben Sands In the corner of the café with a coffee, killin' time, And a second-hand newspaper someone had left behind, Perusin' some old story that had bored me twice before, And I saw you through the headlines as you walked into the door. Well, my heart began a-beating like a hundred conga drums, And the muffin I was eating scattered in the spray of crumbs; But you walked up to my table and you said is this place free? I mumbled yes and spilled my cup of coffee round my knee. Come here to I tell ya (?), there's something about ya You make me feel like no one's ever made me feel before. I can't even think of out (?) livin' without ya And I knew it from the minute that you walked into the door. Well, I ordered two more coffees. You sat down with a sigh. Oh, you looked so sad and lonely and then began to cry; And I became all flustered and tried to dry your tears With a hanky from my pocket that had been there several years. Well, you told me your sad story. You described your life to me As you ate the piece of cheesecake I'd been saving for my tea.... [From "Keep On Singing" by The Sands Family, Spring Records, 2008.] |

Subject: Lyr Add: CHEESECAKE TRUCK (King Missile) From: GUEST,Bob Date: 04 Jul 09 - 02:53 PM This is Ween's Cheesecake Song: So I then got this idea about driving a cheescake truck Cause I figured at the end of the day I could take the leftover cheesecakes home And I love cheesecake So I went to the cheesecake company And they asked me if I could drive a truck And I said yes And they said you're hired So the next day I got in the truck with all the cheesecakes And i drove about a block and I just had to have a cheesecake So I pulled over and opened the truck and got a cheesecake And I also took one for later And i took one for my friend farm boy And I took one to bring home And by that time I had eaten one of the cheesecakes So I took another one So then I figured I might as well stop by my house to drop off all the cheesecakes So I take five cakes to eat on the way and I drive another block and a half to my house Now its lunch time so I eat ten cheesecakes And a cheesecake for dessert I should point out by the way that all of these cheesecakes were very delicious Anyway, I decided the only thing to do would be to eat all the rest of the cheesecakes and hide the truck somewhere and leave town And I miss everybody alot But Im not very sorry Because they were very delicious cheesecakes |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE CHEESECAKE SONG (Ben Sands) From: Jim Dixon Date: 29 Nov 11 - 11:22 AM I was finally able to hear the whole song on Spotify. I also made a few small corrections in the lyrics I posted earlier, so here's the whole song: This is a delightful song, though a bit sad. THE CHEESECAKE SONG Ben Sands 1. In the corner of a café with a coffee, killin' time, And a second-hand newspaper someone had left behind, Perusin' some old story that had bored me twice before, And I saw you through the headlines as you walked in through the door. Well, my heart began a-beating like a hundred conga drums, And the muffin I was eating scattered in a spray of crumbs. When you walked up to my table and you said, "Is this place free?" I mumbled "Yes" and spilled my cup o' coffee round my knee. CHORUS: Come here to I tell ya (?), there's somethin' about ya. You make me feel like no one's ever made me feel before. I can't even think a—bout livin' without ya, An' I knew it from the minute that you walked in through the door. 2. Well, I ordered two more coffees. You sat down with a sigh. Oh, you looked so sad and lonely and then began to cry; And I became all flustered and tried to dry your tears With a hanky from my pocket that had been there sev'ral years. Well, you told me your sad story. You described your life to me As you ate the piece o' cheesecake I'd been savin' for me tea. By the time that it was finished, sure you had me in your spell, And cheesecake notwithstanding, I'd have followed you to hell. CHORUS 3. Well, we chatted on together for an hour or two that day, Then as quickly as you came to me, you quietly slipped away. You said you might be back again next Tuesday afternoon, But seven Tuesdays later I stir mem'ries with a spoon. Oh, you meet so many people and remember very few, Just the ones who touched your heart and remind yourself of you; So I sit here in the café—and behold the trouser stain— With a cheesecake in my pocket just in case you come again. CHORUS |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cheesecake Song (Ben Sands) From: Ross Campbell Date: 29 Nov 11 - 09:08 PM "Come here 'til I tell you...." is how people introduce a story in Northern Ireland - also how the chorus starts. Otherwise Jim's transcription accords with the lyrics on Ben Sands' Reverbnation site here (click) . There's also a video of him singin Coffee and Cheesecake (original title) but the recording is very poor and his soft delivery make it very difficult to make out some of the words. |
