Good News. Sheffield Folk Festival will take place this year. The Event will be held at Burton Street Project Friday 31st October, saturday 1st November Sunday 2nd November. This year we will be in partnership with Burton Street Project and Mike Steel (the Chair of the first festival) is one of the staff there. Concerts, Ceilidh's and Workshops will take place there plus enchanced indoor camping facilities with showers !!! There is a cafe and real ale bar on site too plus space for campervans etc. Artists booked so far include Friday night Keith Hinchcliffe and Michael Marra, Sunday afternoon SkyHook and Jez Lowe plus more to be announced. A full supporting programme of sessions at the usual pubs will also take place and there will be dancing in town. Sponsorship has once again been secured from Sheffield Forgemasters.More details as they come in
Jim

Skyhook are great three piece band - superb record - local to Sheffield.
a track was played last week on Radio 3's Late Junction.

And the ultimate accolade - this past Friday on "Thank Goodness It's Folk".

Read all about them here.

Links are now available via  http://www.sheffieldfolkfestival.org/.

More information will be added as and when I am given it. We ought also to be thanking Mike Steel and the Burton Street Project, without whose offer of collaboration this year's festival might not have been possible.

Ali, skyhook are a band I was indirectly instrumental (sorry about the pun)in the formation of. I asked Martin Harwood & Cath James to play at Sheffield FF and they formed a new trio with ace guitarist and singer Eoin Teather. They are brill will try and get a CD for you to listen to.

Not sure yet we intend to keep them as low as possible but it may be individual tickets rather than a full festival ticket. One thing we are thinking of doing is that indoor camping etc will be £10 per night but will include a full english breakfast

Great stuff mate, good to hear the flag is being firmly flown in your neck of the woods! (Me and George are quite reasonable if you've got room, although if you were looking to fit a *small* one in, Tom might be your better bet!)
Will we be seeing you at Saddleworth this weekend?

muppitz

No green grassy stuff for tents sorry. As I say indoor camping available at a reasonable rate.

Just to add to he plaudits for Skyhook, I've just finished writing a review of their CD and it is one of the most positive reviews I've had the pleasure to write! Eoin Teather has one of the best, new to me, voices I've heard for a long time and the playing is impeccable.

Sounds like the Sunday should be a great gig then! Look forward to hearing more about the line up

Joe G

Eoin is not new he has been a hidden gem in Sheffield for years and is in my mind the most complete folk musician in the region a powerfull voice with a guitar style thats great for both song and tune accompaniment but the groups as whole give a great sound Martin Harwood and Cath James are superb consumate fiddle players with touch presence and genuine talent. In short thay are as you say impeccable and deserve to be huge.

FOr the past few years I have been in Spain whenever the festival took place.

We (Sheffield Live! and me "Thanks Goodness It's Folk) are already talking about doing programmes from there. Jim when you are talking to artists mention it will you and to the sound people.

Dave
