Mildly interesting - but are you sure you are on the right website?

I think this website is for all genres not just folk. One day Wailing Fungus may understand that their music has some of its roots in folk, but we shouldn't exclude them from this forum just cos their music isn't quite what most catters talk about in here.

For instance...Did Robert Johnson Sell His Soul? Find out what the Mudcat's own David W. Scotese has to say about it.... Take a look at our Mudcat Blues Museum. Read about your favorite blues artists and get a tour of the blues.... it's all on the front page as well as talking about the digital tradition etc etc.

"I think this website is for all genres not just folk"

Hmm....Please don't mind if I disagree will you.
The database is pretty much folk song, the chat is pretty much folk person based and most members are folk orientated.
This is not to say we are single minded.
Canal boats, steam engines, woodturning gardening and especially DIY are some of my main pastimes, but this is not the forum to discuss them.
Similarly, in my oh so humble opinion, pop music, jazz, classical music etc. have no place here, although I enjoy all these genres.

Happy listening to what turns you on.

Andy (miserable old git)

Come on folks, the name "Wailing Fungus" ought to be enough to warrant the band's mention on here regardless of how you classify their music. Heck, I sent them a MySpace friend request from my music page on the basis of their name alone. At least their name can be mentioned in family situations; there's a lot of wannabes out there now that choose flamboyant names that I won't repeat.

I'd have to agree with MM, this is a "folk" site & the blues are included if only because that Max's great love. I don't mind when there's a blur in crossing lines but Funk/Punk doesn't even come close. If you want to water down this site, that's up to all who contribute if you want to keep it folk that's up to the group too but as it's home page says it's "Folk & Blues". It's been that way since it's start & that has been it's intent all along.

As a matter of interest, why aren't blues a kind of folk? they are in my world.Or does "folk" mean "white folk" to some people? Because surely blues was the folk music of the black community in the USA?

I don't know that surely blues was THE folk music. I imagine there was quite a variety, but of course I don't know. Cowboy, lullabies, work songs, spirituals, ....It was a music, but I don't know if it was THE music. I think they played a lot of old timey type stuff if I am not mistaken, banjos etc. mg

Thanks for the positive comments, and of course MM you are entitled to your opinion.

None of these kids is over 18 and are stuck in the back of beyond looking for places to gig. Encouragement and support is, I think, what they need.

You know this is a "blues & folk" site. You know that they're not even close.
You know you're not doing them any favors by pushing them here, push them where it'll be of some real help.

Sure, I can ask about SCUBA diving here but if I really want some info I'll go ask about it on a "dive" site.

.. errrmm.. don't sound anything like 'punk' !!????

or the least bit 'folkie' for tyhat matter ???

but what they are doing sounds pretty good;
with a whole bunch
of 70s 'classic' rock/reggae influences poking through..

certainly sound a hell of a lot better than any teenage punk band
i was ever in
way back then...

here's a perhaps more tolerant and appropriate place they might consider joining
and networking in:
