Subject: Festival catering From: Mrs_Annie Date: 14 Jul 08 - 10:12 AM At the Ely festival, in the spot where Chez Nous always are, there was a new stall called Iechyd da. At first I was concerned that we wouldn't get what we've been used to, but on closer inspection, we found that it seemed to be a re-branding of the stall, emphsising their welshness (and with some people we recognised). Does anyone know, are Chez Nous now Iechyd da, or are both names going to continue to trade? No complaints, the food was just as good if not better, and the saute potatoes are lovely. |

Subject: RE: Festival catering From: Folkiedave Date: 14 Jul 08 - 11:14 AM Iechyd da I beleive are an off shoot of Chez Nous, one of the staff deciding to go it alone - so to speak. If that is so - and I have no reason to doubt it then I reckon they are separate entities. Iechyd Da were at Wychwood and I think that was their first time ata festival. And very good they were too. |

Subject: RE: Festival catering From: Richard Bridge Date: 14 Jul 08 - 01:57 PM The "sorted" potatoes were very nice. I thought everything was a bit dear. I'm sure that a bag of chips used to be about half the price of a pint of beer. |

Subject: RE: Festival catering From: PoppaGator Date: 14 Jul 08 - 02:13 PM For those of us illterate in Welsh: Does "Iechyd da" mean the same thing in that language that "Chez Nous" means in French ~ to wit, "at our place"? If so, that's a big clue as to the relationship between the former and present outfit. Maybe these spin-off-ers consider themselves more Welsh (or less Frenchified) than their former associates. If not, then, just what does "Iechyd da" mean? (Please...) |

Subject: RE: Festival catering From: Richard Bridge Date: 14 Jul 08 - 02:23 PM It is a Welsh drinking salutation. I do nto speak Welsh but I think there is some arguemnt whether the closest UK English equivalent is "Cheers" or "Good Health" |

Subject: RE: Festival catering From: Dame Pattie Smith EPNS Date: 14 Jul 08 - 03:58 PM Iechyd Da literally means Good Health Iechyd meaning health and Da meaning good. Of course it's said backwards to English as are most other languages. If you are from the Welsh valleys you may pronounce it Yukky Da! |

" It probably still is, the price of beer has gone up too. I decided years ago that everything was a bit dear and find I save myself about £60 over a weekend if I don't buy food on site. LTS |

Subject: RE: Festival catering From: Richard Bridge Date: 14 Jul 08 - 05:11 PM No, that's the point. Beer was £2.60 or £2.80 and ordinary chips (Moor and Coast) £2, sorted potatoes (as said) £2.60 (small portion) and ordinary chips with cheese (Moor and Coast) £2.80. |

Subject: RE: Festival catering From: GUEST,Brian Murphy Date: 18 Aug 08 - 02:02 PM Hi all, just thought i would clear a few things up here for you. My name is Brian and yes i did use to work for Chez Nous untill the end of the 07 season when my partner Rebecca and i thought it was time to leave the sinking ship ! hence starting iechyd da (good health). You may find our prices slightly more expensive than Chez Nous, this is for several reasons, those being that we only use free range meats from our local award winning butchers, unlike others ! all the eggs we use are from free range birds, our milk is always organic, our tea and coffee is always fairly traded, our plates, knives, forks and cups are all biodegradable and one of the main reasons would be that the price on veg oil has doubled since last year hence our yummy hand cut "sorted" potatoes being priced at £2.50 ! As some of you noticed we did have on board with us at Ely the original founders of Chez Nous (Linda and Michele) who came along to give a helping hand as they live close to Ely and couldnt stay away from such a lovely festival. hope you to see you all again next year !!! With love, Iechyd da. X |
