Other local groups are Skyran from Seaton Carew,On the Edge and Copper Fox both from the town. Among the other guests performing are Acoustica from Newcastle who recently played the Gala Theatre in Durham, Coblers Monday a sea shanty group from Whitby, Pegleg Ferret another shanty group but also very humorous. Paul and Wendy Arrowsmith from Kirby Fleetham folk club are performing with their band Blind Summat Headlining the events on the Saturday are local singer Richie Fletcher with well known folk singer Tom Napper and finally The Hall Brothers from Skipton with their own exciting brand of folk come rock come many other types of guitar playing and singing. We are running the weekend as hopefully the first of an annual festival if this one goes well. It came about as we travel all over the country to other festivals and thought it would be good for the town to have its own festival and we also hope to involve local people to foster an interest in folk music and culture. We are hoping to keep this one reasonably small with about 100 people at the concerts and a fringe of musicians and singers at The Mooring cafe on Navigation Point on the Saturday evening and also on the MV Ella on Saturday afternoon. |

Folk & Blues from North Yorkshire. Three talented musicians/ songwriters and a banjo player came together with a mission to cheer up the Folk Scene. The Result is...... Blind Summat! The Talented Musicians are: Wendy Arrowsmith. Wendy is establishing a name for herself on the Northeast Folk scene as a fine singer of traditional songs (Scottish, Irish, English & American) and as writer of folky style songs with a real sense of place and history. She says she mainly joined Blind Summat to laugh at the banjo player! Joolz Cavell is also well known on the North Yorkshire Folk Scene as a writer of fine contemporary folk songs, a talented percussionist and for her solid guitar style. She says she joined Blind Summat to pass the time between real gigs. Rebekah Findlay is another fine singer & musician (fiddle & guitar) and burgeoning songwriter. She says she joined Blind Summat to keep the old folks happy (i.e. the rest of the band). Paul Arrowsmith is the banjo player. He joined Blind Summat as it was the only gig he could get. |

It was great to meet up with so many musicians and friends and we even had good weather with a fabulous red sunset behind us as we played a fringe set in The Moorings Cafe in the early evening. We really enjoyed ourselves and the sound engineer was the business so it was just a case of perform the songs and no worries about the rest! Well done, Mick and Helen. We hope this festival becomes an annual event. |
