Are you sure it's Irish karenjohn? The version I know sounds like it is from New England. It starts:

Riding down from Bangor on and eastbound train
After weeks of hunting in the woods of Maine
...

There is a Bangor in N Ireland, but I thought of a song about a day trip to Bangor, Wales, remembered from a Steeleye Span recording.

Another lifetime ago I spent months and months and season after season in the backwoods of Maine near the Canadian Border. Bangor was "big time" for us. Saw "Sha-Na-Na" in the Bangor H.S. gymnasium, an apporpriate setting.

If it's in Maine, it's pronounced BANG-gore, by the way. None of this "Banger" stuff.

For Ireland and Wales too, I'd agree with Joe's pronunciation.

The Day Trip To Bangor referred to above wasn't done by Steeleye: it was by Fiddler's Dram (which included two members of the Oyster Band).

I know, 'cos I sang background on the chorus :-)
