English International is a 3CD collection following the history of the instrument by recordings from about 1850 to the present day and features a mixture of archives and modern recordings. The following artists are featured in alphabetical order
Alistair Anderson,Ashton under Lyne Concertina Band,Allan Atlas,
Damian Barber,Martyn Bradley,Danny Chapman,Tommy Dale,
Walter Dale,Juliette Daum,Harry Dunn,Alf Edwards,Jan Elliott,
Tommy Elliott,Fayre Four Sisters,Mark Gilston,Sarah Graves,
Robert Harbron,Heywood Concertina Band,J.Hume,Graham Jenkins,
Tim Jennings,Tom Jukes,Gregori Matusewich,Henrik Muller,
Lea Nicholson,John Nixon,Obi's Boys,Frank Olloms,Tom Prince,Raphael,
Ian Robb,ErnestRutterford,Pauline de Snoo,Rainer Submilch,
Simon Thoumire,Dave Townsend,Wim Wakker and Bernard Wrigley.
We have tried to make this not only interesting ,but also a good listen for non concertina players. It has taken about two years to assemble and at last we have a delivery date from the manufacturers of mid August.
When it is available I will update on this site.
Al

By the instrument, Alan, I know that you refer to the only true instrument, the Anglo concertina, but I thought I would mention it for those who don't realise!

Can I suggest you ask Joe Offer to add 'concertina CD' or something to the thread title, for the benefit of those not in the know?

JoeClone: done!

Errr....errr..I think the Anglo has already been done.

This is a new record - of English concertina players especially when you look at the names.

But I agree concertina could be added.

Hallo Noreen,thanks for your concern.
I normally refer to the true instrument the Anglo ,but in this case it is the other one The English Concertina. Anglo International was released a couple of years ago and are mainly stocked in the UK and America .English International is the follow up collection and then Duet
International in about 18 Months. That will be the three Concertina Systems.

Ralphie is, of course, taking the huff because he plays the only true instrument ... the duet. Not that he thought to mention that for the non-conoscenti !! ROFL (Thinks ... maybe we ought to then start a   subsystem argument over which system is the true system ... Crane, Jeffries, Maccann ... or even Hayden ???)

Roll on Duet International (whenever) .... sorry Alan, reckon you've probably got enough on your plate with English at the moment.

Thanks Noreen and Joe ,what service !!
I was totally aware of the possibilities, versatility and status of the Anglo when I first suggested that project years before to John Kirkpatrick, however when I was asked to do the other systems I was totally unaware of how versatile they were. A few of the top English players I had heard were mainly one note at a time players and 3 CDs of music like that I was dreading. I have had my mind changed however almost within weeks of starting this project, incredible playing can be done on the English and at one point wished I played one.So it's status has got to be equal. As for my work on English Irene(Surrey Singer) I have no work to do at all ,just sit and wait for the manufacturers to come back from holiday.
As for Duet I have already done a lot of work sending out invitations,re listening to archives and I already have some fantastic recordings,so it's progressing. I secretly love the Duet, played well it can be mind blowing ,it is a project I have been looking forward to, but not sure of the depth of top class players at the moment.
I am looking forward to hearing your recordings Ralphie and seeing Mike at Bradfield in a few weeks. You have about twelve months Irene to practice, stacks of time.
So it's English soon and I am very pleased indeed with the final result.

Hi Alan

Yes, I knew that you only had to sit back and wait at this stage - I was thinking more of the aggravation that the unexpected additional wait due to the manufacturers going on holiday must have caused you, particularly when you wanted it out for Sidmouth !

What am I practising for - Bradfield 2009? If so I'd have loved to be there this year, but can't thanks to Sidmouth and Whitby leaving little time. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of the singing sessions there when I went two years ago (but not the cold winds in the barn at night!) In the meantime of course I am practising anyway (and enjoying it!)
