As some of you may know I'm a bit of a fan of Hagstrom J-45s. One just sold on ebay UK - and I was quite keen to have it as the serial number was just 17 before my favourite of the ones I have, my late wife's one, making it another 1964 one.

Despite quite significant cosmetic issues, it went way over my top bid, and sold for GBP 483.

Are these fine guitars finally starting to get the recognition they deserve?

Ended sale on ebay, Hag J45

Hi
We have just taken into stock a Hagstrom j-45...we believe it is a 60's model . it has the trapeze tailpiece and is finished in a vintage tobacco sunburst. overall it is in good ondition. all the machines are original. structurally it is good. the only bit missing is the adjustable bridge. it has a wooden replacement which has been made and works well. the guitar sounds and plays great. if interested please call us on 0151 709 8383 or 07733118531 and ask for stu...we are open to offers.

Thanks Curly - I only like the pinbridge ones. Yours will probably also have the bolt-on neck too and although I'd be keen to try out a bolt-on neck one with a pinbridge I think that combination is very very rare and more likely if found would be 70s. You can date the guitar quite accurately from the Bjarton data (you probably already know that Bjarton actually made the Hagstrom acoustic guitars) now hosted here: -

http://www.vintage-guitars.se/Bjarton_dating.htm.

The machine heads on the bolt-on necks (and every tailpiece one I have seen) are pretty mundane, like the Kent series Hagstrom/Futurama electric guitars (but 3+3 not 6+0). The machine heads that are very rare and worthwhile on their own are the Kolbs with the figured covers ("German Silver" on the set-neck Hag J45s, gold plated with different buttons on some Guilds).

The machine heads on some Swedes and the Jimmys were however quite fancy (and also shared with some Guilds) - but nothing to do with acoustic guitars as such.

I've got a 1964 J-45 in good condition (California, U.S.) Really like it, but it's just too big for me. All provenance info as well as contact with original owner...

bassclarinetrobins@gmail.com, if interested.

Go to the link above.

My late wife used to play one so don't know why it's too big for you.
