Subject: Singarounds / sessions in S W England From: Nick Date: 02 Aug 08 - 02:59 AM My wife and I are taking my son down to Bath later today for a guitar course and are then going to potter round the SW of England for the week. At some point she would like to visit Lyme Regis but apart from that we have no real plans and could go anywhere but it would be nice to find somewhere to sing or play for some or all of the evenings. Any suggestions? |

Subject: RE: Singarounds / sessions in S W England From: Marje Date: 02 Aug 08 - 11:49 AM Sidmouth Folk Week is now under way, so it's an obvious place to visit for a day or two - plenty going on there. The down-side of this is that so many people based in the SW are at Sidmouth (or elsewhere on holiday) that many of the regular clubs and sessions in the area just don't happen in August. If you're in south Devon, this website lists most of what's happening: http://www.harbertonfolk.co.uk/ Marje |

Subject: RE: Singarounds / sessions in S W England From: Cats Date: 03 Aug 08 - 06:11 AM At the end of this week is Dartmoor Festival in the village of South Zeal, a lovely weekend which is a bit like a village fete with a festival on the side. Well worth a visit. If you are still here on 11th then head for Bideford Festival in North Devon. Loads of opportunities for singing and playing. It's singers / musicians sessions with a festival added for those who like to go to concerts and workshops. I can recommend the Bethel Chapel for Afternoon Tea with singing and guest spots each tea time. |

Subject: RE: Singarounds / sessions in S W England From: Sue the Borderer Date: 10 Aug 08 - 08:38 AM Yes indeed! Anyone down in the South West this week (11th - 17th Aug 08) will be most welcome at Bideford Folk Festival. And if you're down this way any time during the rest of the year, Bideford Folk Club is at the Joiners Arms every Thursday - 'official start' is 8.30 though we usually start singing/playing before that. Nick, I imagine you are back home by now, so won't make it 'this time'. I hope you found lots of good things to go to in the South West. Perhaps we'll see you another time. Sue (who has just got back to Bideford after Sidmouth FolkWeek) |

Subject: RE: Singarounds / sessions in S W England From: BB Date: 18 Aug 08 - 05:59 PM Growler, you'd be very welcome at Shammick Acoustic Sessions Open Night in Combe Martin, N. Devon on Saturday 13th September, when Dan McKinnon from Canada will be joining us to do a few numbers. Quite an informal singaround-style evening, but anything goes in the way of performance, be it songs, music, stories, poems, etc. PM me for more info. if you wish. Barbara |

Subject: RE: Singarounds / sessions in S W England From: Marje Date: 19 Aug 08 - 09:27 AM Totnes Folk Club is the 2nd Thursday, ie 11th Sept, at the Dartmouth Inn (off The Plains) in the upstairs room. Usual folk-club format - you get a chance to get up and do a couple of songs/tunes. New faces are always welcome. Marje |
