The instrument is not a flute... it is a pandamonium!

In the mountains of China, where the Yangste does run,
We would gather each night for to have us some fun.
There was one of our nunber, a panda by race
And we all of us thought him the pride of the place.
He'd a flute made of bamboo and when the evening did come
He would play on that flute to the sound of the drum
You can talk of your fiddles, your harp or your lute
But nothing could sound like the old Panda's Flute.

Those brown ones are so common, the green cost more and attract a better class of panda.

I thought I'd give him a couple of extra verses to have something I might sing. Giving us:

In the mountains of China, where the Yangste does run,
We would gather each night for to have us some fun.
There was one of our number, a panda by race
And we all of us thought him the pride of the place.
He'd a flute made of bamboo and when the evening did come
He would play on that flute to the sound of the drum
You can talk of your fiddles, your harp or your lute
But nothing could sound like the old Panda's Flute.

When he was a young one, as a brickie by trade
He carried a hod when the Great Wall was made
His story is written in black and in white,
Which for a Giant Panda can only be right.
When young Marco Polo came from so far away
He danced in delight when that Panda would play,
And on the long March, in his old boiler suit,
He would play for the marchers a tune on his flute.

And in all kind of troubles the Panda was there,
He played for the young ones on Tienanmen Square,
And that wasn't all that the Panda could do,
He's a Shaolin Master of the Chinese Kung-Fu,
And at the Olympics in two thousand and eight
He won a gold medal with the stuff that he ate,
With a length of bamboo vaulted clear through the roof
And the world stood and wondered at the old Panda's flute.

And here's a fourth verse, just to round it off:

And now for to finish my Great Panda song
I hope you'll forgive me if I got it wrong,
For the Pandas of China are a mighty fine crew,
There are some in the mountains, and some in the Zoo,
And they say they're endangered, but I hope that's not so,
For they're proud of their Pandas in China you know
And they're planting them forests of the best bamboo shoots,
So good luck to the Panda and the old Panda flute.

Here am I a loyal panda-man, from China's shores I came
To see my mask-ed bretheren of honour and of fame.
And to tell them of my fore-fathers who fought in days of yore
All on the twelfth day of July, in the mask my father wore.

It is old but it is beautiful, and its harlequin is fine.....
