Hi Guys

I am looking for the tune and the words of a song for a friend of mine. She cannot remember the exact title but thinks it sounds like La Con Cera. She hummed a few bars of it and I know the song she means but I do not know the title. I seem to recall some lyrics along the lines of "stand beside me for truth and for liberty" and ending in "for justice and peace". I'm not sure why, but I think it was covered by The Wolfe Tones????

Sorry for the scant details, but this is important to my friend.

Hi, Davebhoy-
The thread title makes it sound like the song is Spanish - but we're talking Irish here, right?

Hi Joe

Thanks for the response.

I think the piece is classical but has had a different set of lyrics set to it by the Wolfe Tones. We're not even sure of the pronunciation to be honest. It may even be El Cionchera which could I suppose place it in Italy.

I've googled all the variations I can think of in terms of title and words (I think) I remember but nothing hence the reason for turning to the best resource of the 'net!!!!

Thanks again

Davebhoy

Subject: Lyr Add: SONG OF LIBERTY (Brian Warfield, Verdi)
From: Hillheader

Found it!!!!

Song of Liberty,

Lyrics by Brian Warfield Music by Verdi (The Slaves Chorus from Nabucco)

Stand beside me for peace and for liberty
For freedoms denied to many nations.
With sad emotions ,for borders that run through these lands
In the hope that with justice and peace all will be free.

Free the earth of weapons of war, of death and destruction,
Should the strong deny the weak when it's justice we seek for all.
With sad emotion for people of these troubled lands
And the hope that all nations at war will find peace

For united we stand,
Linking our hands throughout this world
Making chains of love that won't be broken.
We are singing this song,
Knowing our heart cannot be wrong
With the love of all struggling people
For I hate to see children crying

We must stop all their sorrow and dying.
Stand beside me for peace and for liberty
With the hope that all nations at war will find peace
It's a wish that our lands will find justice with peace
We will sing you this song , just for you liberty , liberty , liberty.

The Aria is Va Pensiero - absolutely nothing like La Co Cera!!!! Apologies

Thanks Masato

It was really the classical version I was looking for but when my friend hummed it for me I recognised the Wolfe Tones version - hence the notes in the original post!

Thanks again to you and Joe.
