Subject: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: Alexis Date: 05 Aug 08 - 01:01 PM Who is, currently the best ceilidh band attached / linked to a Morris side? A couple of years ago Random were excellent, I suppose Whapweasel almost count through Hexham (a bit tenuous now perhaps) Any thoughts? |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: treewind Date: 05 Aug 08 - 01:17 PM There a quite a few members in common between The Committee Band and Hammersmith Morris. I occasionally wonder if the Pig Dyke Molly musicians should start a band. Who could resist a ceilidh band with a samba-trained percussionist and a Sousaphone in it? Anahata |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: Alexis Date: 05 Aug 08 - 01:22 PM I had a similar thought regarding Hook Eagle Morris, do they have a ceilidh band in tow? |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: GUEST,squeezeboxkc Date: 05 Aug 08 - 04:59 PM without any doubt All Blacked Up |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: GUEST,Chris Brownbridge Date: 05 Aug 08 - 05:13 PM There's alway us (The Bad Bargain Band)in York! We are an offshoot of(The Slightly Notorious)Ebor Morris and consider ourselves no end of a good band! Love and Fishes. |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: Snuffy Date: 06 Aug 08 - 09:43 AM Surprised nobody's mentioned Steamchicken yet. Nothing tenuous about their connection to morris. |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: GUEST,Neovo Date: 06 Aug 08 - 10:13 AM You beat me to it Snuffy - Steamchicken without a doubt and their "morris" credentials cannot be denied! |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: GUEST,Chippinder Date: 06 Aug 08 - 10:15 AM I guess the "morris" connections have stretched a bit but didn't Peeping Tom grow out of Earlsdon MM several long years ago? |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: daughter Date: 06 Aug 08 - 03:00 PM I can heartily recommend "The Most Unexpected Ceilidh Band", snuggly intertwined with Crouch Vale Clog Morris! |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: Alexis Date: 06 Aug 08 - 04:43 PM Any ( apart from of course, the Bad Bargain Band, based in the North? (can't recall where all blacked up are from) |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: Snuffy Date: 06 Aug 08 - 04:55 PM The Fleece Ceilidh Band may have the most morris links: four of its six regular players are active morris men, but each with a different side (in alphabetical order - Chipping Campden, Ilmington, Pebworth and Shakespeare). |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 07 Aug 08 - 07:29 AM The John O' Gaunt Morris musicians have done spontaneous ceilidhs occasionaly and we've proved that we are able to do Wrigley Head musician ceilidhs as well. We could also claim to be able to fulfill all the different descriptions of a ceilidh (see other thread) as we have singers, storytellers etc. |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: GUEST,Chippinder Date: 07 Aug 08 - 08:25 AM I thought the question was which is "the best" morris ceilidh band. I guess most morris bands, particularly NW, can knock out a few dance tunes and find somebody who knows a couple of chorus songs. |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: GUEST,Just back from Sidmouth Date: 07 Aug 08 - 11:44 AM Steamchicken |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: Alexis Date: 07 Aug 08 - 01:16 PM Chippender you are correct, most morris bands can knock out a few tunes and probably even call a few. I am interested in which of those morris sides have ceildh bands attached that are among the best at the moment. A few years ago, I think it was knock one hundred had Ramdon in tow with Saul Rose, amongst other fine musicians. To which morris side are Steam chicken attached or affiliated? |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: Leadfingers Date: 07 Aug 08 - 03:12 PM Not a Ceilidh band , but Dartmoor Morris has a cracking Skiffle / Old Timey band !!! |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: GUEST,Chhippinder Date: 08 Aug 08 - 03:30 AM Steamchicken are members of Chinewrde from Kenilworth. I wouldn't say they are "attached" as such but I guess it just happened that way? |
Subject: RE: The best 'morris' ceilidh band From: Bill S from Adelaide Date: 08 Aug 08 - 08:04 AM Must put in a plug for the Wheeze and Suck Band in Sydney mainly Sydney Morrismen, top band with some great cd's out |
