Who is, currently the best ceilidh band attached / linked to a Morris side? A couple of years ago Random were excellent, I suppose Whapweasel almost count through Hexham (a bit tenuous now perhaps)
Any thoughts?

There a quite a few members in common between The Committee Band and Hammersmith Morris.

I occasionally wonder if the Pig Dyke Molly musicians should start a band. Who could resist a ceilidh band with a samba-trained percussionist and a Sousaphone in it?

Anahata

I had a similar thought regarding Hook Eagle Morris, do they have a ceilidh band in tow?

There's alway us (The Bad Bargain Band)in York! We are an offshoot of(The Slightly Notorious)Ebor Morris and consider ourselves no end of a good band!

Love and Fishes.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Steamchicken yet. Nothing tenuous about their connection to morris.

You beat me to it Snuffy - Steamchicken without a doubt and their "morris" credentials cannot be denied!

I guess the "morris" connections have stretched a bit but didn't Peeping Tom grow out of Earlsdon MM several long years ago?

I can heartily recommend "The Most Unexpected Ceilidh Band", snuggly intertwined with Crouch Vale Clog Morris!

The Fleece Ceilidh Band may have the most morris links: four of its six regular players are active morris men, but each with a different side (in alphabetical order - Chipping Campden, Ilmington, Pebworth and Shakespeare).

The John O' Gaunt Morris musicians have done spontaneous ceilidhs occasionaly and we've proved that we are able to do Wrigley Head musician ceilidhs as well.
We could also claim to be able to fulfill all the different descriptions of a ceilidh (see other thread) as we have singers, storytellers etc.

I thought the question was which is "the best" morris ceilidh band. I guess most morris bands, particularly NW, can knock out a few dance tunes and find somebody who knows a couple of chorus songs.

Chippender you are correct, most morris bands can knock out a few tunes and probably even call a few. I am interested in which of those morris sides have ceildh bands attached that are among the best at the moment. A few years ago, I think it was knock one hundred had Ramdon in tow with Saul Rose, amongst other fine musicians. To which morris side are Steam chicken attached or affiliated?

Steamchicken are members of Chinewrde from Kenilworth. I wouldn't say they are "attached" as such but I guess it just happened that way?
