Subject: Bone Of My Bone .....?
From: Ciaran
Date: 03 Jun 99 - 03:33 AM

HELP!! I was watching Sibin (or Sult?) on TnaG a couple of weeks ago and I heard a beautiful song by a lady with the most amazing voice. She was accompanied by the Voice Squad and some of the words were... blood of my blood, bone of my bone....?? I found bone of my bone in The Joy Of Living on the DT, but I don't think that was the same song. Any help on the song / singer please ?

There was me thinking that this must be a parody of 'heart of my heart'. Could have real fun with that theme.

Ciaran, I think I've got it!

The song I have is off a tape called One Size Feets All with Anne Dodson and a few others. Pixie Lauer sings a Rosalie Sorrels song with this chorus: But we're not one we're worlds apart you and I, child of my body, bone of my bone, apple of my eye.

Is that it? It's a lullaby written for a teenager.

Thanks everyone for your help - I've had an email back from a researcher at TnaG and he tells me the lady was called Maighréad Ní Dhomhnaill and the song was The Wexford Carol. If I find the tune/lyrics, then I'll post them later....unless somebody else has them ???? Slan go foill

There have been other threads concerning Wexford Carols:
this Wexford carol thread includes lyrics, not apparently the one you want, but a good place to continue the discussion. Have a look anyway agus go n-éirí an taighde leat.

GOT IT !!!! The song was 'Wexford Lullaby' and was recorded by John Renbourn (of Pentangle fame) on his 'Traveller's Prayer' album. The Voice Squad and Maighréad Ní Dhomhnaill appear on this track and the title track. Do please try and listen to this beautiful song - it will absolutely knock your socks off! Thanks again for all the help. Ciaran.

These are the lyrics (as I have transcribed them)maybe somebody could get the dots and post them ?

WEXFORD LULLABY

Words/music - John Renbourn

Lulay lulay, my tiny child
Too soon you'll know the world so wild
Yes all too soon you will be grown
And I'll bide here alone, alone.

The rushing bellows you shall ride
And the light of the North Star will be your guide
But yet awhile, I'll have you stay
Lulay my tiny child, lulay.

For you shall run in meadows green
And sport with otters all in the stream
And you shall chase the dapple deer
And swim with salmon in the waters clear.

To pluck the small birds from the sky
On the tail of the South wind, you shall fly
And take the high hills for your home
Blood of my blood, bone of my bone.

The moon must sleep beyond the tree
So weep sweet maid of Galilee
The sun must rise before the cross
To dry your tears and share your loss.

The darkest hour of the starless night
Must bow to the power of the Eastern light
That heals the earth and makes us whole
Heart of my heart, soul of my soul.

And when at last your course is run
Joy of my joy, my little son
Beneath the sky you'll stand alone
Flesh of my flesh, bone of my bone.

Yes you shall stand on the coal-black sands
To cross o'er the waters of the Western lands
But now I have you at my breast
Lulay my sweet one, gently rest.

Here's the Rosalie Sorrels song, "Apple of My Eye." Other than the phrase from Genesis, there seems to be little connection between the songs.
