I just realized that since I actually live in Portland there might be a good chance of finding the record (with the inner sleeve) at one of the used record stores, like the Vinyl Resting Place! I'll check these next few days.

In the meantime, I'd still love to get any other information on this song.

Incidentally, Siúr is not, to my knowledge, used as a name. While its most common meaning is "sister" (literally or as in member of a religious order), it was also used as a simple term of endearment (Ref. Dineen's dictionary).

Thanks, Guest, for wanting to help. The Irish actually means "Rise up (or get up), Siuir." I'm not familiar with the name Siuir and it's not in my book of Irish names. There is the River Suir, but that seems to be a different name. (It's also way in the south. I'm guessing this song is from the north, considering it's source.)

The (vinyl) record jacket indicates that the words and translations are to be "found on the inner sleeve," which is missing from my copy. If anyone has that record, I'd love to get a copy of the inner sleeve.

According to the jacket, "The song is an invitation from a shepherd to his true love to elope with him. No mention is made of the outcome." It indicates that the source is Neilli Ni Dhomhnaill. Is that Michael's (and Triona's) mother?

Sounds like it could be a colloquial rendering into Irish of 'O, Sister' :-)
