Subject: New Sing/Session near Thirsk UK From: Banjiman Date: 08 Aug 08 - 04:43 AM For anyone in North Yorks who has the blues from Pickering Festival being cancelled, there is some good news! A new singaround/ session is starting at The Roebuck Inn at Bagby near Thirsk tonight and then on the 2nd Friday of each month. The fun kicks off at 8.30 and all singers/ acoustic musicians will be made very welcome. Knowing those who are likely to attend it is likely that there will be some trad/ trad sounding stuff along with more contemporary forms. The new landlords are very keen to have musicians and singers in the pub and if there is the interest are likely to increase the number of folk nights. Should be a good night tonight as all of our locals who were going to Pickering are now going to the Roebuck! Come sing, play, drink and be merry. Paul |

Subject: RE: New Sing/Session near Thirsk UK From: Banjiman Date: 09 Aug 08 - 05:13 AM Excellent night it was too. Pub was packed. Bit loud as it was in the public bar......but who cares, I've got a banjo and I know how to use it! As the whole band was there, we all just played louder. I like pub sessions anyway..... what isn't fair though is that everyone shuts up when Wendy sings! Some great fiddling from an 8 year old who is obsessed with Shetlandic fiddle tunes....wish my kids would practice as hard.... and the other young lad on a cornet added a different flavour. Very supportive Landlord....singing along with gusto he was and they supplied free chips and sandwiches! We'll definitely try and make the next one. Paul |

Subject: RE: New Sing/Session near Thirsk UK From: Banjiman Date: 09 Aug 08 - 02:24 PM Good name for a band that "With Gusto" ! Tim, Leveller......you should try and make one of these sessions as long as you are prepared to sing and play LOUD....and not be put off by the locals talking through your songs. Not really a place for subtlety but for hearty songs with participatory bits. Excellent homemade chips! Paul |

Subject: RE: New Sing/Session near Thirsk UK From: theleveller Date: 09 Aug 08 - 03:32 PM Hey, you're talking about the people who sang in the teeth of a force nine hurricane in a marquee somewhere in the wilds of North Yorkshire (don't you love the way the way things become exagerated until they enter into folklore?). |
