Irish Ballad by Joyce Elaine Eilers. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Irish-Ballad-1980-SSA-Joyce-Elaine-Eilers-/260786619176

Best wishes. If you want to know my sources: it'd be my personal copy, and no its not mine selling on Ebay. LOL I don't think I'll ever let loose of it. Beautiful song.

The lyrics from my copy:
Down in County Kerry on the Emerald Isle, two lovers made a vow to be true.
And Patrick O'Leary told Molly Malone, "My darlin', I'll come back for you. When the warm sun of Kansas makes the grain grow tall, my darlin' I'll come back for you."
"Sail away my darlin' to America, I will wait in the Ireland for ye. When the warm sun of Kansas makes the grain grow tall, my darlin', ye'll come back for me."
Patrick had a brother who was already there, and together they worked on the land. He built a little cabin, and planted a rose for his darlin', sweet Molly Malone.
And his dreams were an echo of the song in his heart sung by Molly, his Molly Malone.
"Sail away, my darlin' to America, I will wait in Ireland for ye. When the warm sun of Kansas makes the grain frow tall, my darlin', ye'll come back fro me.
A rage of scarlet fever started down in the south, and Kansas wasn't far away. And Patrick O'Leary was buried in June near the rose that he planted in May.
But his dream was remembered in the heart of his love, his Molly so far, far away.
"Fare thee well, my darlin' in America, I will wait in Ireland for ye. But I'll ne'er lover another till the day I die when my darlin' you'll come back for me.
No I'll ne'er love another till the day I die. When my darlin' you'll come back for me.

-------------------End of Song------------------
Best wishes, Crittle

This is what I remember of the song. I sang it in school as well....

An Irish Ballad

Down in County Kerry on the Emerald Isle
Two lovers made a vow to be true
And Patrick O'Leary told Molly Malone
My darlin' I'll come back for you
When the warm sun of Kansas makes the grain grow tall
My darlin' I'll come back for you

Sail away my darlin' to America
I will wait in Ireland for ye
When the warm sun of Kansas makes the grain grow tall
My darlin, you'll come back for me

Now Patrick had a brother who was already there
And together they worked on the land
He built a little cabin and planted a rose
For his Molly, sweet Molly Malone
And his dreams were an echo of the song in her heart,
His Molly so far far away.

Sail away my darlin' in America
I will wait in Ireland for ye
When the warm sun of Kansas makes the grain grow tall
My darlin, you'll come back for me

A rage of Scarlet Fever started down in the South
And Kansas wasn't far away
And Patrick O'Leary was buried in June
Near the rose that he planted in May.
But his dreams were remembered in the heart of his love,
His Molly so far, far away.

Fare thee well my darlin' in America
I will wait in Ireland for ye
But I'll n'er love another til the day I die
When my darlin, you'll come back to me.

I remember just a few slight differences.

Anybody know of a printed source or a recording of this song? If somebody can send me a scan of the printed version, or a MIDI file, I'd be glad to post it.

It's amazing how many people sang this in school and loved it. I'm surprised how we can't find it online...crazy. I remember it slightly different but the idea is the same (I think you have a verse missing...)

I've always had the second verse as:

Patrick had a brother who was already there
And together they built him a home,
And Patrick O'Leary he planted a rose
For his Molly, sweet Molly Malone
And his dreams were an echo of the song in her heart,
His Molly so far far away.

I'm not 100% sure it's right, but the 'home' line continues the rhyme pattern accurately.

You've got it right. Here's the part you're missing on the verse where Patrick is buried.

But his dreams were remembered in the heart of his love,
His Molly so far, far away.

The title of the song, by the way, is Irish Ballad. I still have the copy of it that I used when I sang it in high school, and I frequently get it out and play and sing it. Beautiful piece.
I added your corrections in italics. Does it look right now?

This one looks like one of the songs in which the lad has misadventures and either he dies before he can return or she gives up on him and marries someone else leading to a confrontation at his return. It could also be considered a lead-in to a broken token song.

I sang this one in school too!

Two lovers made a vow to be true
And Patrick O'Leary told Molly Malone
My darlin' I'll come back for you
When the warm sun of Kansas makes the grain grow tall
My darlin' I'll come back for you

That's all I remember of it but I'd love to know the rest.
