We tend to follow it with "Lovely Nancy" in our Canadian "English" sessions.

Your local sessions are a decade or more behind the times if they have only 'lately' discovered this one.

The original piece by Mozart can be seen at http://www.folk-network.com/miscellany/. Scroll down the page a little for the links.

Malcolm, thanks for elucidating that. I've downloaded the MIDI from your link, and I believe this waltz will be a great hit.

Malcolm,

Ditto leeneia's plaudits above.

'Er indoors is learning fiddle & tunes of this kind are what she likes.

Our little ensemble of melodeon, flute, harmonica, whistle & guitar did it last night in our weakly sesh & it went down well.

However, having listened to your link to the midi's, in particular the full score one, it'll be an inspiration for her to hear it.

Thanks again

Since playing the tune in various seshes around fests during the summer, its been pointed out to me how much the melody resembles a traditional Japanese folk song called 'Furusato' or 'My Hometown'

A nice instrumental interpretation here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y-3fQ8uCVg

My sources on it are my local session over at least ten years, Mally's English Pub Session Tunes and the online abc version of the Lewes Favourites.

That said, it is a super tune. For me learning it has been a significant step in learning to play instruments. The more publicity it gets, the better.

Unfortunately the MIDI links on the Folk Network site linked to above don't work now. The score link is fine, though.
