Subject: Lyr Req: fishing on sunday's a sin From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Aug 08 - 12:36 PM From another thread: Subject: I'm searching for lyrics From: GUEST,rj olson - PM Date: 13 Aug 08 - 12:29 PM I have been searching for lyrics to a song for several months with no success. I can't remember the name of the song or who performs it, but part of the lyrics include, "Some folks say fishing on Sunday's a sin." And the chorus includes "I'm going fishing just to pass the time, going fishing, hook sinker and line." Any help would be greatly appreciated. RJ Olson |
Subject: RE: Req: fishing on sunday's a sin/hook, sinker & line From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Aug 08 - 01:25 PM Well, it might be an update of SOME SAY THAT KISSING'S A SIN. Leadbelly recorded a song called AIN'T IT A SHAME TO GO FISHIN' ON A SUNDAY in his "last sessions." I don't have time to go looking for the lyrics right now; maybe later. |

Subject: RE: Req: fishing on sunday's a sin/hook, sinker & line From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Aug 08 - 03:05 PM Also see the song IT'S A SHAME TO WHIP YOUR WIFE ON SUNDAY which seems to be a "zipper" song with easily improvised verses about various activities: drinking, gambling, etc. Leadbelly's song is probably a variation of this. |

Subject: RE: Req: fishing on sunday's a sin/hook, sinker & line From: GUEST,Capobasso Date: 13 Dec 08 - 05:22 PM It's an Elvin Bishop song, no? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fishin' (Elvin Bishop) From: Jim Dixon Date: 23 Dec 08 - 08:20 PM Right you are, Capobasso. It's called FISHIN' and it's on 4 of Elvin Bishop's albums: "Let It Flow" (1974), "Sure Feels Good: The Best of Elvin Bishop" (1992), "Ace in the Hole" (1995), and "Alive Down South" (1997). I listened to several sound samples and transcribed this. It's obviously incomplete, and I don't even know if I got the segments in the right order: FISHIN' (excerpt) Elvin Bishop [SPOKEN:] I got me a nice little spot picked out down there on the crick. Boy, them perch is bitin' like crazy. Yassuh. Powerful. [SUNG:] I'm goin' fish-fish, fish-fish, fish-fish, fishin'. I'm goin' fishin', hook, sinker, an' line. I said, fish-fish, fish-fish, fish-fish, fishin'.... * Now some folks say that fishin' on Sunday's a sin. If a fish bite my line on a Sunday, I'm 'onna reel 'im on in. Believe I'll take 'im on home, fry 'im up good an' have a ball.... * I'll take my pole an' my jug down to the river, 'm'on set up on na bank. Ever' time the fish start to nibble, I'm 'onna take me another drink.* [CHORUS?:] I'm goin' fish-fish,....(etc.) [*"Drink" is pronounced "drank" to rhyme with "bank".] |
