Kent Folkies may be interested to know there will be a lot of Folk, and 125 Real Ales, at the Hop Farm Beer Festival on 29-31 August.

Hot Rats are performing on Friday evening. Hartley Morris Men will be dancing and singing on both Sat & Sunday and will be joined by Victory Morris Men on Saturday. Together with both Morris sides will be Mike Nicholson and Whole Hearted who will combine for some really rousing sessions on Saturday lunchtime and late evening.

There is a free bus service between the Hop Farm and Paddock Wood station. For full details - http://www.thehopfarm.co.uk/events/20088/2/71/

Ditto. It's unfortunate that they clash, but perhaps it's bound to clash with something at this time of year!

I used to go to the hop farm many years ago before it was a tourist attraction. My gran used to pick hops there in the early sixties. We lived around the corner in Laddingford. Not sure what she would have made of the Mighty Boosh Festival though :)

Go along and support The Rats. It'll help top up their pensions.

May well be along. Faversham has lost it's appeal for us. It's really a dancer's thing, and the car park is so far away from the town.

Nothing wrong with the booked performers!!

Might there be any impromptu singing sessions?

Anything happening on the camp site?

Looking at the programme it looks like what is primarily a beer festival (no problem with that!), with a variety of different sorts of entertainment.

How much folk stuff will there be? Might be worth keeping an eye on as an alternative to Faversham.

Basically it is a Beer Festival with programmed Folk, Jazz and pub games. I am working closely with the organisers as I can see the potential for increasing the folk content given the setting and campsite facilities. This is only the second year and hopefully the increased folk content will prove popular. Ideally future events will not clash with Faversham.
It is unlikely that there will be impromptu singing this year as the majority of campers are Morris who will be kept fairly busy.
The full programme is Fri - Hot Rats from 8pm. Sat - Hartley & Victory MM dancing at 12 noon then an afternoon session featuring all the above artists from 2 - 6ish followed by balloon lift off/pub quiz/hog roast/rat pack!dedication then final folk session from 9.30. Sun - Hartley MM 12 noon, Violet Jive Jazz afternoon followed by Hartly dancing and singing from 3.30. There will also be various pub games and impromptu Morris Dancing around the site.
The campsite has excellent facilities and would be ideal for extending the scope of the festival if this years folk content is seen by the organisers as a commercial success.

Mike Nicholson, Hot Rats, Herauld and Turner, sessions/singarounds and good Morris sides. Not to mention the only jazz band that I'd go out of my way to see (Violet Jive). It should be bloody good. Shame I can't be there!
