Joe and Antoinette McKenna had this song included as one of the few non traditional tracks on an old LP the name of which I can't remember.

I've found it on the web today (here)

Here it is:

THE MORNING AFTER LOVE
(Music and lyrics © 1974 Bob Zentz)

1. This morning, as I listened to the rain, I thought of you (C-Bb-C)
Wished that you were by my side again, memories flew (C-Dm-Am)
But cigarettes and coffee cups don't make that dream come true (F-Em-Am-F)
And it's the morning after love, and the night before loneliness (Em-F-Em-F)
And somewhere in between, I'll find out what you mean (Em-F-E-F-Em)
Before we're through (F-C)

2. Many months have passed between our smiles, I had to go
To face along the emptiness of miles, what did we know?
But we swore that we could never change, but forgot that we might grow
And it's the morning after love, and the night before loneliness
That lets us know the score, enough to say no more
Except hello

And too many times, we had to wear the mask (Em-Bm)
And too many times I had to stop and ask you (Am-D)
    Why you never cried (C-Bm-Am-G-F-C-G7)

3. I can't insist that we should meet again, that's up to time
But maybe even distance was a friend we thought unkind
But dulcimer dreams and yellow roses still are on my mind
And it's the morning after love and the night before loneliness
They're only fading signs, slipping far behind
A bitter line

And it's the morning after love and the night before loneliness
That makes us stop and see just who we want to be
Then sets us free

And it's the morning after love and the night before loneliness
The morning after love and the night before loneliness

That means I'm down to nine now.

Wolfgang

Hi, Wolfgang - I still haven't come across any of the songs on your List of Ten, so I'm glad you found this one. Looks like Folk-Legacy Records has resissued this on CD on the 1974 Mirrors and Changes album.

Joe, my best hope is for the McCalmans adding (much more) lyrics to their website. One of those left I might be able to transcribe.

Wolfgang
