Subject: Lyr Req: If it's a Lady, Thumbs Up! From: GUEST,Sneff Date: 18 Aug 08 - 08:08 PM I assume that this is an old British Music Hall number but I can't find reference to it anywhere. The chorus goes: If it's a lady, thumbs up! If it's a lady, thumbs up! Don't go kicking up a row Kicking up a row Just say, "Wow! Wow!" If it's a lady, all right! Everything is sure to be sublime. If she whispers in your ear, "Hold me tight, Georgie dear!" Thumbs up – every time! I'm chasing the lyrics for the start of the verse set in a railway train ... can't remember the first few lines but the rest of the verse is: ??? ??? … a fact you cannot shirk. On the railway train you ride Find a seat inside But some are standing when the engine gives a jerk And on your knees there drops a person you don't even know Well iff that person is a man you feel annoyed, but oh! &c Does this ring a bell with anyone?? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: If it's a Lady, Thumbs Up! From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 Aug 08 - 10:21 PM According to The Sheetmusic Warehouse, IF IT'S A LADY, THUMBS UP was performed by Miss Florrie Forde, and was written by Worton David and Bert Lee, and published in 1914. That's all the information I could find. |

Subject: ADD: If it's a Lady, Thumbs Up! From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Apr 21 - 02:30 PM I found lyrics (printed on a postcard) at eBay: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/264488816676?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=709-53476-19255-0&campid=5338722076&toolid=10001 IF IT'S A LADY, THUMBS UP! (Worton David and Bert Lee) What to do and what to say All depends to-day, On circumstances, the fact you cannot shirk; In a motor-bus you ride, Find a seat inside, But some are standing when the motor gives a jerk. And on your knee there drops a person you don't even know Well if that person is a man you feel annoyed, but oh! CHORUS If it's a lady, thumhs up! If it's a lady, thumbs up! Don't start kicking up a row, Kicking up as row--just say “Wow! wow!" If it's a lady, all right, Ev'rything is sure to he sublime, If she whispers in your ear, “Hold me tight, Georgie dear," Thumbs up! every time! When you're down beside the spray, For a holiday, Upon the ocean you venture for a sail; Tho‘ it's calm beside the quay, When you get to sea, A storm arises, and your face turns rather pale; The steamer rolls, and if upon your feet you cannot stand, You wildly fling your arms around the nearest thing at hand: CHORUS Ladies everywhere to-day Seem to hold the sway. We've lady clerks now, and lady doctors too; ' You are feeling rather bad, Touch of “flue” you've had, So for the doctor you've to send to pull you thro’ ; But if to come around himself is quite beyond his powers, And he sends an assistant there who holds your hand for hours!
