Subject: Lyr Add: MOTHER MALONE (from The McNulty Family) From: Jim Dixon Date: 14 Jul 13 - 12:38 AM You can hear this recording at The Internet Archive; it is item #41 on the menu on that page. MOTHER MALONE As recorded by the McNulty Family on Decca (USA) 12195A; 21-Oct-1938. You may think by my line of discoursin' That I once kissed the neat(?) Blarney Stone. I have not, but I'll tell you a story: I have often kissed Mother Malone. Some lads when they go out a-courtin', Why, they have not the spunk of a mouse. They stand on the corner and whistle. They're afraid to go into the house. But I always walk in with me swagger As if the whole place were me own, And I sit meself down with "Good evenin'. How are you, O Mother Malone?" Then I kiss the old woman and hug the old man, Give johnny a dollar and shake hands with Dan, Fight for his sister and do all I can, do all I can, Then I walk out with me gal Mary Ann. I had only been courtin' a fortnight When her heart and her hand I had won, And the first time I went to the cottage, The old lady she called me her son. When I asked the old man for his daughter, His son-in-law soon I would be. He said, "Be me soul, Pete McNulty, Ye can have both my daughter and me." Now John is my Patty's big brother. With him I keep on the right side, And I kiss and I flatter his sister, For she is my darlin' and pride. Then I kiss the old woman and hug the old man, Give johnny a dollar and shake hands with Dan, Fight for his sister and do all I can, do all I can, Then I walk out with my gal Mary Ann. Then I walk out with my gal Mary Ann. |
