Yeah, I've known Sparky for4 a long, long time an' when I organized the concert series in Luray thought it would be cool to have him and Rhonda do a concert... Ends up he'll be doing two...

I donno... Sparky and I are bad influences on each other even if we do have a lot of fun...

An', of course, seein' as I'm openin' for hi at one of the two performances, he'll prolly take me aside afterwards and give me the usual "I didn't teach that stuff to you that way"...lol...

Sparky's doin' of DELIA is the best; it's a long one, but I always wish there was more. Give him a hug for me. --- Art Thieme

I wish he'd come and visit the UK again some time. I saw him at a festival in Scotland some years ago. Absolute magic.

Wish I could come! I'm a BIG FAT fan! His singing/songs was one of the influences that set me on my folk- (and folky-) lovin' path.

Maybe they'll be making a stop in NC?!

Enjoy!

Dani

His website is at http://www.sparkyandrhonda.com/ . Their tour itinerary is on their up to November 2009 and there's no mention of anything in Britain. But I'll keep looking.

I think it was at the big Winfield, Kansas festival in the 1970s that I first met and heard Mr. Rucker. He was a duo with John Davis then. Sparky is a musical survivor, an entertainer extraordinaire, and a keeper of the flame. A brilliant friend of folklore and the folk songs of his people -- and beyond. I mean this with sincerity, and with great respect. (And you can quote me!)

Sigh. No where near close enough.

In any case, be sure to invite him to the mudcat; he'd have lots to offer!

Sparky stays purdy booked up these days sop I don't reckon he's lookin' for more places to play music and tell his stories but I'll tell him to stop in here if he ever gets bored, or time, or both...
