Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: GUEST,Jim Martin Date: 27 Oct 08 - 08:12 AM Very disappointed that I couldn't get to see Bob Fox/Stu Luckley & Tannahill Weavers as the only way was to purchase a day season which I was not prepared to do as I was otherwise occupied being on hol from Ireland. The Fri night 'Peeping Tom' ceili was good and I enjoyed the French dance workshop Sat. |

Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Merek'n'Dary Date: 24 Oct 08 - 03:57 AM Hi all Now back from a brill holiday on the Rhein ... our good Banbury weather stayed with us and we were drinking wine and Asbach brandy on our balcony in our T-shirts! Got really into the German Oompah spirit .... Had to prevent Merek from bringing back a cuckoo clock! Anyway, so glad thst you enjoyed the Festival. Wild Flying Dove the photos are terrific. Please can we use them in our website gallery and send the one of the Mayor to her? Cheers! Prost! Merek'n'Dary |

Wish we could have stayed longer on Sunday but the grands called - staying overnight as their Mum was on an early start. |

Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: My guru always said Date: 14 Oct 08 - 04:14 PM Well done to Merek'n'Dary and everyone who helped to make it such a great weekend! Many thanks to all who brought prizes, chocolate and bought raffle tickets! The MudRaffle raised £40 towards MudCat funds which I'll be transferring in the next day or so. Must admit that I ate more chocolate at the Mudgather than I have for a long time, we finished the tin that Merek'n'Dary contributed at the late night sing at the Golf Centre on Saturday night. So here's the Mudcat Register, just one list of all the MudCatters I spotted at the fesival with asterisks (or gold stars) next to those who managed to get along to the MudGather. Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Merek'n'Dary Date: 13 Oct 08 - 04:59 PM It was great to see you all there. Thank goodness the snow stayed away this time. Off to Germany in the morning for a week's recovery hols. Looking forward to the bratwurst. Should have learnt Jock O' Dreams 'ode to a brattie!' Merek'n'Dary |
Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Dave4Guild Date: 13 Oct 08 - 03:19 PM Sorry Cresby you must have gone to the lounge in the Bell on Sunday as we joined the session in the bar from about 1.30 and didn't leave until 4.30 when we left to catch our train. |
Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Mrs Scarecrow Date: 13 Oct 08 - 01:59 PM We had a really fabulous time and thouroughly enjoyed making our small contributions. The Golf Club is a great place to camp and sing, the only downside is that the bar stayed open so late that I never got to a port and cheese workshop oh well you cant have everything! |
Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Mr Red Date: 13 Oct 08 - 01:29 PM The sessions midday in the Reindeer didn't look as if they happend. By 2pm they certainly weren't. Bell Sat went on past 4:30 but Sun 2pm there was nothing. Mind you with the dancing there was little time for much else. The breakfast sing was a hoot. |
Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: bubblyrat Date: 13 Oct 08 - 10:48 AM Or should that be "Fliespast" ?? |
Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: bubblyrat Date: 13 Oct 08 - 10:43 AM Just got back after spending an extra night at Drayton Leisure Centre, who were keen to have another "session" last night. Great fun, and a surprising number of people, 10 or so campervans/caravans, still on the site at 1100 this morning !! Stayed in the bar last night until about midnight, with lots of singing and instrumentals, from Karen (WFD) and me,Miskin Man and Jilly,a couple from Hereford way( he guitar, she electric piano),a singing-only couple from Minehead way (Mike and Di ),some lovely ladies from Brighton,( Claire and Marion), friends of Binns,Fred and Breton Cap,and a hearty chap from Cardiff with fiddle and guitar!Plus various WAGS and sundry others. Had great fun this morning pushing/pulling vehicles off the muddy ground !This would make a great regular feature (the session !) if DLC continues to be used for camping. No snow today, but we had two VERY low,VERY noisy Harrier flypasts for added interest. |
Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Seaking Date: 13 Oct 08 - 03:12 AM A thoroughly enjoyable weekend with lots of singing at the Golf club and the Mill, my thanks also to Derek and Mary. Highlight as expected was Bob Fox and Stu Luckley, still as brilliant as they ever were. The singaround at the Reindeer on Saturday night was a belter, I'm just sorry I couldn't have got there earlier. I'm just hoping now that my work rota works out for next year. Chris |
Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Emma B Date: 12 Oct 08 - 07:05 PM It was great, the 'orchestra' were fantastic Patti and entertaining and informative concert spot from Tom Lewis too. Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Dame Pattie Smith EPNS Date: 12 Oct 08 - 07:00 PM Wow! A wonderful weekend. Splotty and I thought it was the best one yet. The weather was beautiful. Highlights for me were obvioiusly enjoying doing our concert spots and the Spoons Workshop. I am always amazed how people can play spoons like that after just one hour's tuition and then perform in the Spoons Orchestra of Great Britain. Thank you all spoonists you were wonderful once again. Also the rest of the concert in the Town Hall Saturday night, the impromptu busk outside the Arts centre on Sunday afternoon in the sunshine with Keith Donnelly and Co, and the Mellstock band in the Theatre. Thanks lots Derek and Mary. XX |

Hils, I'll bring a donation for the raffle. Chris |

We will be running buses from Drayton and St Marys and once again the school PTA will be cooking the breakfast! Weather forecast for the weekend is sunny! Definitely no snow! Forget the credit crunch ..... Come and enjoy yourselves at Banbury. Merek'n'Dary Mental note ..... don't forget to buy some chocolate ! |

Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: My guru always said Date: 29 Sep 08 - 04:37 PM Don't know the answer Sue, am sure Merek or Dary will pop on the thread soon & reply! We'll probably have our new kitten (Rusty) in the caravan with us, she's too little to leave at home on her own yet. Also too small to pass around at the MudGather I'm afraid, we'll have to stick to Ginger Tom *grin* |
Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Sue the Borderer Date: 26 Sep 08 - 05:39 AM To stop any confusion, I should have said that the details about HB that I gave above are the updated ones, rather than what it says on the website at the moment. Just wondering whether the Golf Club campsite will be open Sunday night or whether we have to be off 'as usual'. Sue |
Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Sue the Borderer Date: 25 Sep 08 - 07:29 PM I'll be there so once again you've the chance to dance or play with Herbaceous Border. Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: My guru always said Date: 24 Sep 08 - 02:57 PM Oh Tig & Badger, Mrs Duck and all the associated Duckettes, we'll miss you all!!! So sorry we won't be seeing you at Banbury, but hope to see/hear you again soon! Looks like there are a lot of Catters coming to the MudGather again this year, though of course some will be working and/or supporting working progeny - apologies accepted of course, but you'll miss the chocolate *all the more for us then* I've been on a steep learning curve & have set up a very basic web-page for myself, here 'tis! Positive suggestions & advice will be gratefully received, it's just a bit of fun though *grin* I can't quite work out how to get rid of the 'click' when it opens, obviously something to do with the sound bites but.... |
Subject: RE: Banbury Folk Festival 2008 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 24 Sep 08 - 06:02 AM Oh I wish but sadly with no work yet on the horizon not likely to be able to make it - unless we're forced to move into the caravan and then we might as well :0) Have a great one everyone! |
