We had a thread on this on rec.music.folk in 1999. Search Google groups for lightbulb, or just go here:
old thread

I just noticed that Frank Hamilton took part in that thread, as did Abby Sale.

H H
I yhink that you'll find that the definition of a light bulb was perfectly defined in the 'Light bulb definition' declaration of 1957 (Ver 2) as amended by the sub committee on definitions commissioned by the Mudcat forum thread of the same name.

Although this may be the subject of some discussion!

Six; one to take out the old bulb and screw in the new one;
another to take out the old bulb and screw in the new one; another to take out the old blub and screw in the new one ...etc.

How many mudcatters?
One to cange the bulb and 147 to argue about what, exactly, constitutes a light bulb.....(alternative answers most welcome)

It was dark this mornin too dark to see my room
It was dark this mornin too dark to see my room
Too dark for lovin too dark to dust my broom

Felt for the light switch turned that sucker on
Felt for the light switch turned that sucker on
Nuthin happened, I guess the bulb done gone

Went to the hardware store see what he could do
Went to the hardware store see what he could do
I think I need a giant Edison Screw

Can't do it solo guess I need some help
Can't do it solo guess I need some help
Just some things you cain't do by yourself

I need a risk assessment before I do a thing
I need a risk assessment before I do a thing
I ain't been trained so I'll give my buddy a ring

He said my assessment shows it's harder than you think
said my assessment shows it's harder than you think
You gotta earth your ladder to the kitchen sink

I called for Phil the plumber to fit the earthin clamp
Yeah I called for Phil the plumber to fit the earthin clamp
He'll be a day or two but I got a paraffin lamp

I went to climb the ladder only then I found
I went to climb the ladder only then I found
You need a ladder permit if both feet are off the ground

And you need a trained first aider just in case you fall
Yeah you need a trained first aider just in case you fall
So I thought some then I gave another buddy a call

Then I screwed the old lamp out and put the new one in place
I said I screwed the old lamp out and put the new one in place
And came down from the ladder with a smile on my face

And now I know the answer sure I do for goodness sake
And now I know the answer sure I do for goodness sake
Cause now I know how many people it will take
