I concur with Mr Mac..Girvan was great this year. If you are suggesting that a few libations might have been taken then you are, as is Tattie B, quite right...there were. For it is mightily thirsty work this singing of ballads coorse and driech. And even more thirsty work singing in the bar afterwards.



So..the Mighty Quin.......is it not traditonal.......yet?

Girvan was great fun this year..was a very interesting and enjoyable Saturay. Listening to some great ballad singers then hearing some of them singing songs like "The Mighty Quinn" in the pub session that night was fab.. Best Girvan festival in ages..and to think we were almost didn't go..phew!

The song was written by John Eaglesham and I did ask his partner Biff, about it a while ago and if it was ok to pass the words on. She said she'd check if he had a copy lying around but I haven't seen her nor John since Girvan and none of us were really in a condition to sort it out at the time! I'm always meaning to sit and learn it but never get round to it , though I've picked a fair bit of it up by osmosis from John.

Here are the words as I have them transcribed but I'm sure there'll be errors in them. If I get a copy of the official words then I'll post them.

Would be highly delighted and grateful if someone has the words for this chorus song, to the tune of "The Man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo" (or, if you prefer it "the Quine that did the Strip at Inverurie") Have heard it around a few sessions. Found a song called Inveroran on an Alison McMorland/Geordie McIntyre CD, but it's not the same one.
Bits of the chorus include, You go up by Loch Lomond, turn left at Bridge of Orchy, etc.
