These are some clips from an old CBC-TV special from 1971 that may be of interest to some. The Cape breton Fiddler never did vanish here and the old music is still strong amoung the young folk.

I saw one wee Cape Breton fiddler vanish from sight at the Normaway Inn.
Came back in about 10 minutes later looking much more sedate you might say.

This is the young boy in the earlier clip grown to a young man before going on to international fame with his siblings. Sadly his life was way too short! RIP John Morris, you were one of the greatest!

Saw John Morris at the Big Pond Festival. He was fantastic. Always enjoyed the Rankins.
Ashley Issacs was fabulous too. Nathalie McMasters stands on broad shoulders.

On the morning of John Morris's death, I had slept in my car just a few miles away, waiting for the snow plough to come by so that I could finish my journey home from playing in Fiddler's Pub in Sidney.
Probably made it home no more than an hour before his accident.

My father was from Whale Cove in Margaree and it was on the shores of the old homestead that John Morris died. I had written a song about the same spot and I intended to sing it that day at The Highland Guitar Society jam. When I got to Judique I was told the sad news. I was unable to do that song for a long time afterwards.
There is a new generation of fiddlers continuing the tradition. It is still passed down by the masters such as Buddy to the youngsters such as Douglas Cameron and many others. The fiddlers didn't vanish and they won't for a long time to come!

The tradition of great Cape Breton fiddling is carried on by Buddy's niece,Natalie

Andrea Beaton is another niece of Buddy as well as being the daughter of Kinnon and Betty. The MacMasters on one side and the Beatons of Mabou on the other. Does this perfect storm of genes produce a great fiddler? Judge for yourself!
