Subject: RE: Otwin guitars - anyone else owned one? From: Will Fly Date: 03 Sep 08 - 03:21 AM Hi John - thanks for that snippet. Otwins appear to have been as rare as hens' teeth over here! Nice to see you down at Arundel and Chiddingly recently, by the way - loved your singing of "The Lakes of Pontchartrain". |
Subject: RE: Otwin guitars - anyone else owned one? From: Harmonium Hero Date: 02 Sep 08 - 03:53 PM I knew two people in Liverpool in the late 60s who had Otwin flat-top acoustics. I also saw a bloke - again in Liverpool at about the same time, although he was a visitor from Yorkshire somewhere, I think - who had a strange guitar with a circular body, which I seem to remember was an Otwin. I think he said they'd only made half a dozen of them. John Kelly. |
Subject: RE: Otwin guitars - anyone else owned one? From: Will Fly Date: 01 Sep 08 - 08:53 AM Thanks Murray - you beat me to it! But I'm still curious as to whether anyone here ever owned one and had opinions on them. |
Subject: RE: Otwin guitars - anyone else owned one? From: Will Fly Date: 01 Sep 08 - 08:52 AM A quick Google search reveals that the original Otwins were made in East Germany by luthier Otmar Windish. |

Subject: Otwin guitars - anyone else owned one? From: Will Fly Date: 01 Sep 08 - 08:47 AM My first guitar - bought in 1964 - was a cheap and useless instrument. A friend took pity on me and offered to sell me -for £10 - his f-hole guitar. The make was "Otwin". I played this for 3 or 4 years (before buying a s/h 1964 Epiphone Texan) and - though I may be wearing rose-coloured spectacles or angelic hearing-aids - it seemed a nice, basic instrument with a reasonable action and tone. I've never seen another Otwin, before or since. Anyone else ever come across this brand? |
