Subject: Folklore: Mawkin and a very funny Aussie! From: GUEST,Shameless Promoter Date: 01 Sep 08 - 03:47 PM Dear UK Mudcatters, On Tuesday September 2nd (yes, tomorrow) we are hosting and promoting an evening of fantastic music. Stephen Taberner, from Melbourne, Australia, notorious as the arch-conspirator behind the Spooky Men's Chorale, takes to the stage with his beloved double bass "Beatrice" to titillate your ears with a sly array of quirky, funky and melancholic songs exploring, amongst other things, teenage angst, the existential life of goldfish, and the secret life of peaches. The second half of the evening sits in the hands of locally based Mawkin "One of the best instrumental outfits to emerge in recent years" - CHANNEL 4 Four piece Mawkin -, gleefully meld together traditional melodies and driving rhythms to create a wall of sound, delivered with stomping energy and raw panache. This evening will have you chuckling and invigorated in equal measure. Tickets are £10 and the evening begins at 8.00pm - that is when it starts - not when the doors open! Please come along and support the theatre in addition to hearing some excellent music. Box Office 01206 366 000. Subject: RE: Mawkin and a very funny Aussie! From: lady penelope Date: 01 Sep 08 - 05:36 PM If I had the means to get to Colchester and back I'd be there like a shot. Mawkin are an infectious bundle of energy and Steve Taberner is a mad genius with a superb voice (only he's knocking about with a floozie double bass, he had to leave Beatrice at home....) £10 is a bargain for these two acts, can't recommend them enough. |
